About

A comforting, wholesome little shop, a bowl of hot oatmeal right here on Etsy.

I opened up worthygoods textile because I heard a call for organic fabrics. Literally. In 2009 I got a call out of the blue from a woman across the country who wanted a few yards of my organic cotton sherpa. Granted, it's luxurious stuff and worth a hot pursuit, but how ever did she find my cell? After explaining that the manufacturer gave out my number when she called to order a few yards (they don't retail), I'm pretty sure a cartoon lightbulb appeared over my head. Right then.

When I'm scouting fabrics, the checklist is twofold. Initially I look for colors, patterns and textures that make the pleasure sensors in my brain light up. But that's not it, folks, these fabrics have to be certified organic, too. Their sustainability is proven by tracking farming practices, thread production, right on down to the efficiency of the looms these fibers are woven on.

While hunting industrial finds from shuttered textile mills, I'm looking for something that comes with a different stamp of integrity, the patina of a lifetime of hard work. These are wooden tools, made hearty enough to outlive their workplace. I love sending these rustic spools and bobbins off traveling the globe. Some are put on display, others back to work holding freshly wound fibers.

worthygoods textile shares a basement studio with my handmade shop, worthygoods, here in my coastal Maine home. It's a workspace that's always simmering, a slow state of boil that occasionally spatters about the room. But, when you're inspired by sustainability in action like I am, neatness is not a virtue. There are always going to be bits leftover from this to be saved for a future that. Odd remnants don't lend themselves to a perfectly tidy shop, more importantly, instead of getting thrown out, they eventually find use. That's a kind of 'neat' I can live with.

worthygoods textile is a comforting, wholesome little shop, a bowl of hot oatmeal here on Etsy. Between the clean, healthful fabrics and sound vintage woodens, worthygoods textile pairs the hands-on, hard work of fabric's past with the healthful, ethical organics of today.

Who will you find at worthygoods textile? Dory, that's me. I'm here, doing all-of-the-things and I love it. Call? That's me saying, "Hello." Write? I'm typing you a thoughtful response. Order? Yay! I'm down in the studio, cutting, sorting and carefully bundling up your purchase to ship out right away. But first, tucking in a handwritten note and lagniappe, a little extra gift, in hopes that you'll return. Thanks so much for your business, folks!

Welcome to worthygoods textile!

Organic luxury textiles are hand-picked by me for their exceptional quality, wear and how wonderful they feel. From the seeds to the soil, the machinery the fabrics are woven on, even the water-soluble dyes and optical whiteners used in the printing processes. These meet or exceed Global Organic Textile Standards, or more commonly, GOTS (domestically made terry, sherpa, velour, french terry, fleece) or are OE-100 organic certified (Cloud9 Fabrics).

Feel confident that the fabric purchase you make from me here at worthygoods textile is keeping unnecessary pesticides out of the soils, as well as processing chemicals and dyes out of it's production. Even the machines the fabrics are knit and woven on must meet a level of efficiency. It's wonderful to live in a time when I can make choices that will positively impact my future as well as that of my children's and future grandchildren's.

"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
