About

Sarah Gillett Photography

I live in Toronto and have worked in various capacities in the arts community here since graduating from the Ryerson Theatre School's technical production program in 2000.

Some of my adventures have included building props and miniature landscapes with Radical Sheep Productions (my first and only TV credit!), building hats for Young People's Theatre, managing the studio and gallery of a wonderful Canadian portrait and fine art photographer named V Tony Hauser, and managing installations or performances during Toronto's annual all-night contemporary art festival Nuit Blanche. At Nuit Blanche I've been lucky enough to have worked with some brilliant local and international artists including Camilla Singh, Lee Ranaldo and Leah Singer, Douglas Coupland and Alain Declerq.

My day job is as a database gal / business analyst for one of Toronto's larger arts centres. Weirdly, I love it.

Outside of work, my passions are divided fairly evenly between taking pictures, cooking and music. I wasn't at all sure that anyone would be interested in my photographs, but surprisingly Etsy has helped me connect with lots of lovely people who do!

Because of Etsy I was found by art consultants working on hotel projects in the States, and now images from my Ryman series of photographs (my most popular series) have been purchased by both the Omni Nashville Hotel and the Sheraton Nashville. That means that my photos hang in over 1000 Nashville hotel rooms!!

My other big thrill was in 2011, when one of my favourite bands, Wilco, partnered with Hipsatamatic on a photo contest where fans could submit images to be be featured on a limited edition cassette run of their The Whole Love album. My image was one of the winning entries - which were CHOSEN BY THE BAND THEMSELVES - and I cannot tell you what an incredible feeling it was to receive my cassette in the mail with my photograph on the cover and my photo credit below the names of the band members. It still gives me chills! (This image is for sale on the site - it's the Rainy Field shot.)
