About

Wrens bless the Wood instruments

Mostly I work outside. And that is how I ended up naming my products and shop "WrenSong Woods". It's a play on words, too, because I enjoy words.

When I play a Native American style flute I have made -- or a kantele -- the music attracts the Carolina Wrens. At least one will come and sing with me as I play. Usually, the wren hops onto the nearby fence, tilts its tiny head, listens, and then bursts into bright and loud song. Sometimes the wren will sing and accompany me for 10 - 20 minutes before flying off.

The Native American style flutes are made by hand, turned on a lathe, and decorated with crow beads and suede. The kanteles are made from a range of woods and are made in two sizes -- tiny (sopranino) and 5-string. The two instruments sound wonderful together.

I am interested in people learning to make music to express themselves and to that end I've designed my flutes and kanteles to be easy for you both to learn to play and to play well. My flutes do not cause shoulder or wrist pain to play especially for those who might have shorter fingers or hands. It is not a child's instrument.
