Announcement   At Xenasdad you will find the work of a mature artist/artisan who makes innovative works that combine vision and skill. Whether you are seeking art for the wall, a table that can show off a collection, a re purposed printer's type box or seashell jewelry that will draw attention, please take a close look.

I believe I am the first to have published a table using a printer's type case for a top. First exhibited in 1994, and written about in both The New York Times and East Hampton Star. I ask that you not support those who are making and offering versions of what I consider intellectual property.
Consider that mine have the signature of a former recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.

We are thrilled with our table. It's so sturdy and well-built and people are hounding us to get one of their own. I've never bought custom furniture before, but we splurged on this one, and it was worth every penny. So happy to have such a beautiful heirloom to display our rock collection (and our kids are excited to show off their finds!!)

About

Innovative custom made tables and mixed media art combining woodwork, seashells and color finishes.

I doubt I was the first to recognize the worthiness of the printer's type case beyond it's use in the typesetting and printing industry. But I believe I was the first to publish it's incorporation in a table. In 1994, I began showing my versions. One was featured in the NY Times article regarding the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. The Copyright, by law, entitles me to ownership. You might consider this when you purchase someone else's version.

That said, I believe I have made over two hundred tables with or without collections. I make many versions of coffee, side, sofa, console and tall display tables. I use non threatened woods and repurposed printer's type boxes. I can customize the top for your specific collection. The spaces in a standard California Job Case (Proper name) may be too narrow, short or not deep enough. I can remove dividers, and deepen the space under the glass. The cost is a bit higher.

In my wall art, you can see how I vary the spacing to enable different and larger specimens to be used in the assemblage. But the real story is in the cutting of large bodied shells, the mounting of thin shells and how all are presented. In the compositions within up cycled printer's type boxes, ALL the shells are contained within a depth of a full 1". The result is a sculptural "Relief" of what I refer to
as "Painted sculptures". Large shells appear embedded. Odd shapes are angled and thin ones float. Each composition is unique. I do repeat sizes, color schemes, use many of the same shells but do not replicate. You can customize by telling me dimensions, refer to a listing that you like or send me shells to include in your wall piece.

You can find the use of printer's type boxes with collections by others that can hang on the wall. Mine are the work of a former National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship recipient. My art is owned by a number of Public Collections and by many in the private sector.

I offer some empty printer's type trays that you can order and use. Some are in nearly perfect condition. Others I have made into sizes that are not readily available elswhere.

Having mastered the cutting of seashells, I have added the making of necklaces, earrings, pendants, and other jewelry. I also make Wampum from the Quahog clam shell that is native to the waters where I live.
