About

Fiber Art & Jewelry

What's in a Name?

Often I'm asked "why did you name your shop xhiled?" This name actually has great meaning for me. I was raised in a very strict environment where little freedom or self expression was allowed. Since childhood, it was obvious to me that my natural inclinations, quirky personality, and artistic preferences were not easily understood by those around me. The group environment that I was raised in does ultimately exile undesirable folks and I eventually found myself on the outside of a toxic organization. Thankfully, I could finally be free to express myself honestly. Later in life, I found weaving as a creative outlet yet noticed that I was restricting my experimentation for fear of being "othered". I finally had an ah-ha moment and realized that if I am ever to be truly happy with my work (and in life) I need to do what makes my soul feel spacious. The name xhiled comes from this philosophy - to be myself, no matter what even if I'm an outcast and feel misunderstood. Committing to authenticity is my life's purpose and I'm so thrilled that my work speaks to others.

Tactile Healing

What I love most about weaving is that the art can be deeply therapeutic for the creator but also healing for admirers. Unlike other artforms, fiber art is interactive. It can excite the senses and be a special tactile experience for everyone. For this reason, I include a variety of textures and materials in each weaving. I love creating a sense of intrigue and drama by weaving together both elegant and natural fibers such as wool, cotton, jute, velvet, and silk. I hope that you enjoy the character of your new piece as you run your hands over it and feel its contrasting elements. My intention is to create fiber art that inspires, excites, and heals you!
