Welcome to Yarn Happy Bead Happy!
Please enjoy your visit to my shop.
Hi! I'm Diane L. Augustin and I am Yarn Happy - Bead Happy
I teach knitting, crocheting and Tunisian crochet classes at several yarn shops and art centers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul/St. Croix Valley area. One of my passions is knitting and crocheting with beads. I also manage the daily activities and teach classes at ThunderWillow Community Arts in Hudson, WI. I have classes at Ramsay County and Hudson libraries, as well as through Hudson Community Education. I often conduct workshops and demonstrations at special events and festivals in the area.
I have been teaching professionally for seven years. My background as a graphic artist in the publishing industry facilitates my ability to design, write, produce and publish my patterns. I am also the photographer. I continuously develop new designs, offering them as classes, with a focus on teaching techniques.
I learned to knit continental or combination style at seven years old from my grandmother, who had to teach me in order to get her own knitting back from me! I live in western WI, just outside of Hudson, with my husband, Lance and the boss of the household, Thomas Edison, our stray kitty who came to stay. I am Yarn Happy Bead Happy!
I hope my designs will become your favorites. I am Yarn Happy Bead Happy!
My pattern was published in the newly released book, North Shore Knits, produced by Three Irish Girls. The book is composed of patterns by local designers, inspired by the fantastic new color ways created by Three Irish Girls.
My designs are also published in the Knitting: 100+ Patterns Throughout the Year: 2013-2017 Day-to-Day Calendars as well as Crochet: 100+ Patterns Throughout the Year: 2013-2017 Day-to-Day Calendars.
Berroco Yarns has posted a very nice write-up to their blog, Designer Spotlight: Get-up-and-go Cowl by Diane Augustin. The pattern is a free download on Ravelry.
My classes are available at:

I love playing with yarn and beads, inventing new designs or challenging myself with interesting patterns. I make quality scarves, bracelets and earrings. I also knit three types of beaded bracelets with special metallic thread.
Recently, I began knitting beads into some of my scarves and was pleased with the results. This opened up a whole new world of blissful knitting and beading for me. I hope to share the joy with you.
My latest kits, Bead Happy Necklaces, are very easy and fun to make - perfect for gifts!
If you see something you like, but would like a different color scheme, size or pattern, please contact me. I will do my best to accommodate any requests for custom designs. I am the happiest when I am working on a special project for someone. Please contact me to discuss details.
Please enjoy my patterns and products!
I AM yarn happy bead happy!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Thanks!
Thanks for your interest!
Please Enjoy!

5 out of 5 starsI haven’t started knitting this yet but reading the pattern I’m really excited. Brioche is going to be different enough to keep me engaged without being daunting. Even picking the yarn is enough to make me dream in color. (I have no idea if I dream in color but in my dream I was combining colors.) Now I’m in a hurry to knit everything in the queue ahead of this beautiful cowl. I’ve had the pattern printed and in my hand for less than 24 hours. Waiting is going to be a problem. Oh, I forgot to say how helpful Diane Augustin is. I am a computer idiot and when I tried to download it it just poofed. It has fallen into a crack between space and time. I asked for Diane’s help and she email it to me. She was quick and friendly. She is a gem!

5 out of 5 starsThe instructions were clear, which was just as well given that I never attempted brioche before. Made this with angora and wallaby and am so happy with the results!
