I began knitting when I was 15. My mother taught me that summer on secondhand yarn & needles. Took me awhile to make something that didn't look like Swiss cheese, but I stuck to it. About a year later, still knitting, a nice lady at a local craft shop taught me to crochet. I'd been trying to teach myself to no avail, and so she sat me down in the store and painstakingly showed me my mistakes.
I was obsessed! I LOVED yarn! I would sit for hours and hours, be it at home, in a park, or on my free periods in the halls of my high school, I was "the girl who knits".
For years I handmade all my Christmas gifts and people would say, “Wow, you should sell these!” So, my senior year of high school I had a friend draw me a monkey wearing a hat and scarf. I used it as my sign at my first show, and thus, YMP was born. I sell online, and with a local crafter's consignment shop, as well as any high-end craft shows in the tri-state area. My long-term goal is to open up my own yarn & craft store - sort of like a real-life, brick-&-mortar etsy.
Everything here is about the fiber. It may sound a little dopey, but you really do have to let the yarn speak to you. If that yarn doesn't want to be an earflap hat, you'd better believe it won't become one. The fiber, color(s), and weight all play a huge part. The accessories I sell are made to last - something I promise is true. I'd never sell anything I wouldn't buy myself, so I try to ensure to the best of my ability the quality of the items I create.
I began making yarn, because while there was always someone else at a show selling scarves and hats, I never, not once, saw anyone selling yarn. If I were at a high end craft show, yarn is the first thing I would look for... so I did a little research.
The dyeing process can be quite a lengthy one, as the technique is definitely one that has to be developed. For the moment, I only dye one skein at a time, though this is something I'm hoping to be able to expand upon.
I've always coveted handspun yarns above all else; if you've never knit or crocheted with good handspun you are seriously missing out. I'm so pleased to finally be able to offer handspun of my own for sale here! Handspun yarn is just as, if not more precious, than a handmade hat or scarf, and a handmade item made from handmade yarn! I know you will love it, and I'd love to see all the wonderful things you make with it for your loved ones!
While yarn is my favorite craft it's not my limit; you never know what you'll find over here! From hand-painted stem-wear to picture frames to bathroom rugs and Christmas ornaments, jewelry, and custom knitting supplies, I love to dabble in a bit of everything! Check back frequently to see what's new!
