About yarntwisted

Sales 2,922
On Etsy since 2009

Warming heads, hands, and hearts, one stitch at a time.

Hello! I'm Shana, and I'm glad to "meet" you. Welcome to my little corner of the world. I'm glad you're here.

My mission with this shop is to bring warmth, encouragement, and joy to the world - all through custom handknits and crocheted pieces.

The idea for my shop's purpose came to me one night as I lay pondering my life's direction before bed. I am a deeply ponderous person, and as I faced a path that I had not planned on (I found myself as a newly single mother of 3) - I knew that I was going to have to make some life altering decisions.

I was faced with two options.
1. I could focus all my creative energy on my creative work - just hoping that it paid the bills.

2. I could choose to go back to school and finish my degree in Psychology and pursue a career helping other people.

Both options were so appealing. I have an intense need to create. And I love the flexibility of working my own hours.

But I also know that I came to this earth with the intent to motivate, help, inspire, and encourage others.

So, I decided to pursue my education and dally in my creative endeavors. I fell asleep at peace.

And then I awoke with this idea that just wouldn't go away.
I knew how I could do both.

I'm always sharing pictures on social media of my latest creations - I already have a network of people who I get to interact with on a daily basis.

Since I was marketing anyway - putting content out into the world - why not make it inspiring, as well?

As I've gone through some learning curves with the challenges that have come in my life (divorce, overcoming OCD, and leaving a religion that I was born into), I realized that the messages that we all WANT to hear on a daily basis are:

"You're okay." "You've got this." "You're enough." "You're worthy of love."

Most marketing is aimed the other way.
"You're not good enough." "You could be skinnier." "If only you had flawless skin, then you'd be happy." "Buy our stuff, you'll feel better!"

I knew my message had to be different.

Because You ARE good enough. You ARE unique. You ARE beautiful in your own way. And if I can help remind you of that, then I have accomplished my goal.

So I decided to kill two birds with one stone. I decided that with each new piece I created, I would share a message of hope, healing, and empowerment.

Instead of merely warming heads and hands, I would work on warming hearts, too. This was how I could work on my life's purpose - inspiring others WHILE I was creating.

AND - because I'm a glutton for punishment, I also decided to continue pursuing my education so that I can finish my Psych degree. ;) (Wish me luck!)

Thank you for your support and patronage of my work. It is funding my education - thus allowing me to pursue my passion for helping and uplifting others even more.

Love to you and yours.
Namaste.
