About YayoiShibori

Sales 22
On Etsy since 2016

For the love of blue and white.

Yayoi has always had a love for the blue and white aesthetic of Japan. This color combination evokes a simplistic and peaceful artistry, which is Shibori.

Shibori resonated with her, and she wanted to learn everything about it. As such, she started reading books and studying DVDs on everything Shibori. She then started taking classes in Shibori at the Honolulu Art Academy, and then at the Honolulu Museum of Art, over the years. She gives a heartfelt thank you to her instructors, Darius Homayounpour and Gail Toma, for their dedication to Shibori, and for making Shibori accessible to all.

Shibori is a magical, hands-on way to create a piece of art. The manipulation of fabric with your hands - binding, tying, stitching and folding - always leads one to anticipate with wonder what designs will be revealed after the hand-dyeing process is complete. Watching the indigo dye transform from a murky green into various shades of indigo blue always amazes. Each Shibori piece is unique in its own right, no two pieces are truly identical.

Yayoi Shibori is about sharing the simplistic and peaceful artistry of blue and white.
