Welcome to Yellow Cottage Studios. My name is Dani and I am the potter behind all the yarn bowls, coffee mugs, jewelry bowls, butter keepers and anything else you might find in this Etsy Store.

I love to make things that are functional while adding a little bit of beauty to your home.

Each one of my pieces, whether it is a little spoon rest or a big bowl is made with a whole lot of love and a little bit of clay. The clay, which starts out as a big lump, is carefully molded under my hands on my potter's wheel. All my glazes are also all made by me.

Once ordered, your piece is carefully packed to withstand the rigors of shipping and since all my product is already made, I ship within 48 hours so you will get your special piece quickly and in one piece. Of course, things can and may go wrong so if it does arrive less than perfect let me know immediately so I can take care of you.

HOW IT ALL STARTED
Ever since I did my first Paint-by-Number as a kid (I think it was kittens), I have been hooked on "making". I made everything, from my own clothes to Christmas presents. As my kids were growing I decorated fun birthday cakes, I had sketch books all over the house. I took art lessons. I photographed everything.

It is in my blood..... I am a "creative".

Fast forward to 2009, on a trip to visit family, my mother-in-law, who had a ceramic shop at one point, asked if I wanted a kiln.

Heck ya I did!

My husband shook his head and dutifully stuffed it into the back of our jeep and we drove it home to California. That began my love affair with pottery!

After finding a used potters wheel we converted an extra bedroom into a pottery studio (not recommended) and I basically taught myself how to throw on the wheel (with a bunch of help from YouTube).

Today I am a full-time potter working in a much larger studio which has allowed me to spread my artistic wings and create all day long. The studio is my favorite place to be and I share it with several cats who lived under the studio when we bought the building and who now have a warm place with plenty to eat.

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to learn more about me and my work! If you want to be the first to know about new listings be sure to favorite my Etsy shop. http://www.yellowcottagepottery.etsy.com

I list fun studio things, like screw-ups, cat shenanigans, motivational quotes and new pieces on my facebook page at www.facebook.com/yellowcottagestudios

Well, I admit I'd never heard of a Butter Bell and because I prefer using healthy "real" butter I absolutly love my Butter Bell.. When you make a piece of toast and the butter spreads so easily... I love my Butter Bell and am considering them for gifts for my family members!

Beautifully made and ever so useful! I purchased two of these butter keepers - one for home and one for the cabin.

All the butter bells lined up waiting to be glazed!
This is what a yarn bowl looks like when I am first starting it. 2 1/4lbs of wet clay! From there is goes on my wheel and formed into a bowl. Next day it is trimmed and the swoop is cut. Fired, glazed and fired again.
My Studio....I am busting with pride! If you are ever in SE Oklahoma, Poteau, stop in and say hello. I am right on the main drag, you can't miss me.

About

Stoneware pottery made by me....for you.

Within the walls of Yellow Cottage Studios you will find Creativity happening.

I have always crafted, created, painted, stitched, and weaved. Now I am blessed to have found my passion in Clay. If you ever have a chance to walk into the Yellow Cottage Studio you will find me playing in clay and covered in mud.

When I am on the potters wheel I zen out to the sensation of the clay forming something smooth and wonderful under my hands. Starting from a lump of muddy clay I push and pull, sometimes gently, sometimes not so gently until the clay responds to my direction and becomes a thing of beauty.

Living our day to day life is what inspires me, I look for areas of need and try to come up with something beautiful to take its place. For example, watching friends knit or crochet, their beautiful yarn rolling out of cut up plastic liter bottles or plastic shopping bags, inspired me to start making yarn bowls.

Everyone deserves something beautiful and everyone should be able to own art.

Hand thrown pottery bears the mark of the human touch. From the freshly thrwn piece I may carve, paint or manipulate the piece ito become a piece of functional pottery that hopefully will bring joy to someone

Ever since I can remember, I made stuff! I poured over craft magazines, haunted the aisles of craft stores, gave handmade gifts as often as I could. Pottery is now my way of life, forming beautiful shapes from a lump of mud. It is my life.

    Quality Control

Meet Tom. When I purchased my studio space it came with a feline tenants. Tom and Jerry Jack were the friendly ones and during a small renovation we created a small hallway from the outside to the inside of my studio where the cats can come in.

Frequently asked questions

Gift wrapping and packaging

I will be happy to ship your item without an invoice and with a short message to your recipient. Just let me know in the comment section while checking out. Because I try to ship in the smallest box I can, to keep shipping costs down, I do not gift wrap

Gourd Care

The gourd I use are of the highest quality and have been properly dried and prepared to last a lifetime. Each piece is sealed in a high gloss finish.

Gourds are not food safe or water tight.

They are a piece of art and should be treated as such. I use color fast dyes however exposing to direct sunlight may cause some fading.

Gourds can crack or break completely if dropped. The thicker the gourd the more it can take but because they are light weight I recommend keeping them out of reach of children and wagging tails

Is the pottery dishwasher and microwave safe and non-toxic

Unless otherwise noted, YES!!! Use away!!
