Just for me.. All me!!!! These are beautifully made. Between wearing my crystals and my essential oils, I'm ready for my days to begin!

About

Creating beautiful things from natural materials, Clay and Gourds

Within the walls of Yellow Cottage Studios you will find Gourd Art, Yarn Bowls, Jewelry Bowls, hand-wrapped Jewelry, hand-thrown pottery as well as wonderful wood projects made by my husband like Custom Knives and Wooden Wall Plaques.

All my life I have crafted, created, painted, stitched, weaved. Now I am blessed to have found my passion in Gourds and Clay. Most of the time you will find me playing in clay and covered in mud. Other times I might be found cleaning, woodburning, weaving, painting, or carving gourds.

When I am on the potters wheel I zen out to the sensation of the clay forming something smooth and wonderful under my hands. Starting from a lump of muddy clay I push and pull, sometimes gently, sometimes not so gently until the clay responds to my direction and becomes a thing of beauty.

Hand thrown pottery bears the mark of the human touch. From the freshly thrown piece I may carve, paint or manipulate the piece ito become a piece of functional pottery that hopefully will bring joy to someone else.

Gourds, on the other hand, are natures pottery. They grown in all shapes, sizes and coloring. The Gourd artist sees more than a dirty hard shelled fruit. We see what it could become. After we scrub the dirt off we see the beautiful coloring left behind by nature. Gourds take well to being carved, painted, dyed, weaved on and woodburned. Most of the time I just have a starting idea, I don't plan out the whole gourd. I let the gourd tell me when it is finished.

I discovered gourds many years ago when I needed something to weave pine needles on. They are wonderful to paint, burn and carve on and give me hours of joy. As for Pottery, I love the feel of the clay forming under my hands!! I love being creative!

Frequently asked questions

Gift wrapping and packaging

I will be happy to ship your item without an invoice and with a short message to your recipient. Just let me know in the comment section while checking out. Because I try to ship in the smallest box I can, to keep shipping costs down, I do not gift wrap

Gourd Care

The gourd I use are of the highest quality and have been properly dried and prepared to last a lifetime. Each piece is sealed in a high gloss finish.

Gourds are not food safe or water tight.

They are a piece of art and should be treated as such. I use color fast dyes however exposing to direct sunlight may cause some fading.

Gourds can crack or break completely if dropped. The thicker the gourd the more it can take but because they are light weight I recommend keeping them out of reach of children and wagging tails

Is the pottery dishwasher and microwave safe and non-toxic

Unless otherwise noted, YES!!! Use away!!
