Announcement   Handmade Quirky colorful Messenger Bags, Shoulder Bags, Scarfs made out of recycled T-Shirts , Tawashis (crocheted scrubbies) and fun home decor is what Yimmeke Design is all about.
All items are handmade and designed by me. Most items are one of a kind, unless I happen to like a design SOOO much I just HAVE to make a couple more. I use great quality designer fabrics , whatever I think is most suitable for the project I have in mind, although re-use, re-purpose and recycle are always on my mind whenever I am able to find something special or exciting. I will always state whatever materials I used.

If you have any ideas, wishes or just a comment, please feel free to convo me, I love to hear feedback from you.

No matter how much fabric, there is always room for one or two more polka dot remnants or some zebra print Jersey... Or some green crushed velvet...sweat_smile
Of course it is easy to see where the inspiration for this bag came from heart_eyes

I am always looking forward to getting my hands on a gorgeous vintage piece of barkcloth, wash it and hang it to dry in the beautiful fresh Georgia air. I then take a cup of tea and enjoy the view of the fabric, dreaming up a next project...!

About

Yimmeke Design...Lovely....Unpredictable...Fun !!!

Hello out there,

My name is Diana Helene Josephine DeBurr- Obsteter, believe it or not.
My name is that long because my parents fought over who,s mother I was going to be named after, so I ended up with both of them.
But besides my name, and all in all I think everybody categorizes me as "normal" although quite edging the eccentric side and leaning towards weird, but pleasant and absolutely harmless.
I was born in Canada, but when I was 5 months old my Dutch parents moved back to The Netherlands because my mother convinced my father that : "nobody saw the baby" (me) and they all should see this chubby hairless little eyed baby. Personally I just think she was very homesick and I don't blame her a bit, Holland was a nice and safe place to be.
Well anyway, I was a bit more adventurous then my mother and ended up with an American husband who dragged me allover Germany and back to Holland.
After ten years of blissful living there, we decided to move to Georgia USA and that is where I am now.
My youngest son is a flight attendant and travels all over the world. It makes me proud and happy, for him to be able to do this while still young and free.
My oldest son has Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive muscle disease.
He needs my help day and night.
And as a good, loving, sweet, devoted mommy who loves her two handsome hunks more then anything in the whole wide world I am pleased to say...I am my son's caregiver with all of my heart.
He is the one that motivated me to keep doing what I like most.... how I love the wacky, funky and unpredictable way of self expression, by creating out of the seat of all emotions, the heart.
When Doron was about 8 or 9 years old, he came home with a drawing of the cutest boy? girl? He did not know...I just knew I loved it so very much. Especially because his fine motor skills were not too grand because of his muscle disease.
Later, when opening my shop on Etsy I asked him if I could use his drawing as my avatar..and of course I could. That is why I will never, ever change my avatar. Even if it means that other avatars would bring me more sales, I do not care, it is here and will not ever go anywhere.
Having said this, you also may wonder how I came about naming my business "yimmeke design" It is named after my third son. His name was "Kahyim".
Kahyim died when he was 4 months old, he was born with a heart disease (HOCM).
I named him "Yimmeke" his "pet name" in Dutch.
Okay now you know just about everything or maybe just about nothing about me, but enough to get you by for a while right?... No?

Okay....

I love sewing, knitting, crocheting, love clay (new passion), adore screen printing (not good enough in it yet, but getting there)....am passionate about people and all of their idiosyncrasies, except when they become dishonest, that is the end of the line unless they say sorry...looooove Hippo's because they are such good mothers and I am nuts about trees...o yes and mockingbirds !

Each of my creations are hand made and designed by me They each are made in a different mood and with fluctuating hormone levels, so they are definitely one of a kind and unpredictable...o yes that is a word and feeling I am totally nuts about...""UNPREDICTABLE" It is such an adventurous word.
The other word I am accused of loving too much is the word : "WHY?"
Much to the dismay of husband, children, friends and family, when they introduce me to a new human being, I can't help but ask them : "why" a 1000 times, not out of being nosy but out of pure genuine interest. I think this need, urge, passion of mine just needs to be satisfied in order to keep me the happy, positive person I try to be everyday.
They agree somewhat...they know my OTHER side...

Furthermore, I am also passionate about my Etsy shop. It gives me the opportunity to be at home taking care of my son, while at the same time having this tiny little spot in my life to do something I really enjoy, to get the so much needed relieve from stress, to keep me going, even when life gets dark and sad.
I am not able to create everyday, more something like every week, because of our circumstances, but you betcha I am so so so very happy to be here and to make bags and purses and scarfs and scrubbies and necklaces and the whole shebang..in the hope to make other people as HAPPY as we try to be, everyday of this WONDERFUL LIFE !!!

I love animals, nature, fishing, pottery, cooking, gardening, the mountains. I dislike Brussels sprouts, the smell of coffee , hot weather, shoes that hurt my feet, the color pinky tan, ironing and most of all people that hurt animals and children.

Additional policies and FAQs
Please keep in mind that I do NOT use Scotchgard on any of my bags and purses, since this product is loaded with "POPs" which is environmentally unfriendly.
Most bags are "SPOT CLEAN ONLY", some of them you can just toss in the wash or hand wash. I will put a note about this with every listing.

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are organic compounds that are resistant to environmental degradation through chemical, biological, and photolytic processes. Because of this, they have been observed to persist in the environment, to be capable of long-range transport, bioaccumulate in human and animal tissue, biomagnify in food chains, and to have potential significant impacts on human health and the environment.

Of course if you decide to use scotchgard it is entirely up to you, but it is nice to be aware and with awareness comes responsibility.
I for myself decided to take that responsibility. Thanks so much!
