Announcement   This Old Blouse is back up and running after a much needed break! For my returning customers, you'll notice quite a few changes. Since graduating from Auburn University in 2011 and moving to the west coast, my style is quite different today. I wanted to update TOB to reflect the current lifestyle and aesthetic (ok, and maybe weather) that fits me post college years. I'm currently focused on making raglan tees, and after hearing so many requests over the years from customers for sleeves I think everyone will be super excited! Check out the social media links for ideas on how to style this wardrobe staple for games.

TOB is designed and handcrafted with love by Auburn University apparel design alumna Wallis Smith-Owens. As a former sustainability minor, she strives to create fun, quality clothing that is earth friendly. The majority of garments are made from pre-loved t-shirts and deadstock fabrics making them one of a kind; even our hangtags are made from recycled goods. Now you can look great and be green - no matter what color your dress is!

I contacted This Old Blouse to have a gameday dress made for me (it's hard to find University of WI dresses, since it's too cold up there for dresses most of the football season :) ). I'm pretty particular, and I gave her a lot of direction, particularly in reference to when I needed to receive the dress. She was very communicative, patient with me, and produced the exact dress that I wanted, on time, and perfectly made. I received so many compliments from total strangers on my dress when I wore it to the UW-Alabama game in Dallas. And we know those Bama fans are hard to impress! 5 Star Experience and Product! Highly recommended!

About

Upcycled Game Day Apparel, look good and be green - no matter what color your team is!

Some of the first garments I ever made were from old t-shirts of mine. Let's face it, you basically get a t-shirt for participating in just about anything; from races to fundraisers to campus clubs, everyone wants to give you a t-shirt as a momento. All of my t-shirts were special and I really didn't want to part with any of them!

While attending Auburn University I was an apparel design major. I quickly learned that at SEC schools it is very fashionable to wear dresses to football games and other sporting events. I know there are a lot of choices out there for game day dresses, but I wanted to create something special. I used some Auburn shirts and got to work. Once I started wearing my own designs, I was constantly being asked where I had bought them. Every time I told someone it was one of a kind, she would always reply, "you should really make those and sell them!" Then one day I finally did.

It started with some t-shirts and my 2 sewing machines in my college apartment. After graduating I moved to Portland and currently work full-time for Colette sewing patterns as a pattern maker.

It takes a lot of time to source pre-loved materials and make one of a kind garments. I carefully hand pick all of my materials from a variety of sources around Portland. I'm fortunate to live in a community where being eco conscious is supported and many local businesses will gladly give away unused materials.

Please allow 14 days for custom orders to be made unless stated otherwise.

This Old Blouse believes that upcycled doesn't have to look second-hand. I strive to create sustainable garments that are fashionable and look like new. I sew every garment by hand.

Please note that since all t-shirts used to make TOB apparel are preloved they may have cracked logos, small stains or an overall worn appearance. TOB patches all holes in shirts before they are made into dresses. Returns/exchanges are not given for cracked logos, stains or holes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have bling/rhinestones/bedazzles added?

I do not have the capability to bedazzle garments at this time.

Can I have a name printed on the back of a garment?

I do not have the capability to screen print garments at this time.

I don't like the logo on a garment, can I change it?

All garments are made from preloved materials, meaning that I do not print anything myself. The logos/designs on every shirt are left as is due to copyright infringement. This means every garment I sew is one of a kind and you'll never see someone wearing the same thing to a game!
