About

Handmade philosophy. Maker of objects

I am a multidisciplinary artist from Western Australia working across several mediums, including ceramics, textiles, painting and printmaking. My work is strongly influenced by my background in art therapy, with a focus on exploration of materials and processes.

Yuniko Studio was created around ten years ago. I am interested in the creation of objects which have meaning. Generally speaking, this means they are handmade, have a quality of uniqueness and they are ultimately useful or purposeful. Although my art practice is based in Perth, I am currently spending time away from home to explore life and creativity in Bali, Indonesia.

One of the most rewarding aspects of working as an artist is the occurrence of chance encounters with like-minded people. Not necessarily other artists, or makers, but with people who have an intuitive understanding about creativity (or perhaps who are simply drawn to things without really knowing why). I try to maintain regular connection with the outside world, participating at artisan markets and hosting open studios, both of which are wonderful ways to show the work and make meaningful connections with others.

This is perhaps why I have been rather slow to use an online shop as a platform to sell my work - I have a preference for face-to-face contact. However, having been asked often enough "where else do you sell your work?" and being out of town for the time being, it makes good sense to get out into the virtual world.

So I humbly offer you - like-minded souls that you must be, who appreciate the handmade, who have an imagination strong enough to understand the work without the need to hold it in your hands - a few pieces that may speak to you and which you may wish to own!
