Announcement   Welcome to yurtcraft! The place for bamboo and cotton one of a kind reusables for your cycle, postpartum, incontinence or everyday freshness!

There are two ways to order at yurtcraft, Ready To Ship or Made To Order, as indicated in each listing. There is no longer a need to leave Etsy to get the exact pad you want. Choose your length, absorbency and width in the listing and leave a note to seller if you have a backing preference, if you don't have a preference I will choose for you.

My current price list is listed below and subject to change. Pads come in liner/light, regular/moderate, and heavy/ultra . The tops are flat cotton, cotton flannel, or minky. The cores are made from bamboo and organic cotton. Each absorbency level adds 25 cents to the cost of a pad. Pads are backed with either Wind Pro moisture resistant polyester fleece, Power Shield Pro waterproof backing, PUL bonded waterproof organic cotton sherpa(natural), or PUL bonded organic cotton fleece in black, if you have a preference let me know or I will choose what pairs best with the top fabric. Extra snaps are 50 cents each and wing extenders are 75 cents each. Please let me know where your order will be shipping so I can get an accurate shipping charge for your listing.

About

I make beautiful, reusable cloth menstrual pads and occassionally bags to carry them.

I learned about cloth pads through a self sufficiency/homesteading site. At first I was grossed out but the more I thought about it the more it made sense. I started having some health issues that were being aggravated by disposable products so I did some more research on reusables. After I made my first stash from a free pattern on the internet I was less than thrilled. I designed my own pattern and then did some tweaking to get the perfect, non-slip fit. After getting the perfect fit I started experimenting with different materials. When I hit on what worked best for me I had a few internet friends try them out and after their encouragement I opened yurtcraft.

~~~WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD I WANT TO USE CLOTH MENSTRUAL PADS?~~~
Honestly, it's just more comfortable! Just imagine not having plastic in your panties once a month and not getting the unwanted occasional bikini wax from the tape =/. Cloth pads are not what cloth used to be. They come in fun fabrics and different shapes. They are not the old rags that your mothers or grandmothers may have used. Cloth isn't hard to care for either, you can rinse and soak them or you can just fold them and wash them all at the end of your cycle. It's really no different than washing your panties. Do you throw them away when they get a stain? No, you wash them. And just think, with cloth pads on hand there will never be another midnight run to the convenience store for feminine hygiene products.
All top fabric is washed in hot water with a dye free detergent. All core fabrics are washed in hot water with dye free detergent, twice. Because of this shrinkage should not be an issue. I would still recommend you wash your pads yourself in your preferred detergent before use as I do use Mary Ellen's Best Press when I iron the top fabrics.
I use bamboo and organic cotton as the main absorbent layers in the core. Bamboo is anti-bacterial and very absorbent, you can read about it here--http://bamboostyle.com/whybamboo.html
~My Cleaning Routine~
There are many routines but I am basically lazy so I store my used pads in a mesh laundry bag until I do laundry. I don't rinse them I just fold them in half and toss them in. If I remember I will put the bag in the washing machine, with my whites, the night before I plan to do laundry so they can soak overnight. I use cool/warm (not hot) water, some detergent and a scoop of oxygen bleach. The next morning I will finish the cycle and move my whites to the dryer, leaving the mesh bag of pads in the washing machine. I will wash my next load along with the pads transferring the laundry to the dryer and leaving the pads behind for the next load. When I've washed my last load the pads go into the dryer with it. If you have some particularly stubborn stains OxyClean Gel is amazing for getting them out, check for stains between loads.
The manufacturer of the backing fabrics recommends not washing with hot water and drying on medium or low heat in order to maintain moisture resistance. They also don't recommend the use of vinegar or borax in the wash.
