✿Use Coupon Code THANKYOU for a 10% discount at checkout, prior to shipping. ($100. minimum) Not for use on sale items, or discount items, please. Thank you!
✿SHIPPING: Buckwheat hull zafus ship USPS Priority Mail, which includes insurance. Unfilled zafu covers ship USPS 1st Class Mail. Postage overage for multiple purchases will be refunded via your payment method, at the time the postage is purchased.
✿ZIPPER or VELCRO CLOSURE LENGTH: all my zafus are made with a short 6" long sidewall zipper (or velcro) opening. Consequently my zafu covers cannot be used as a slipcover for an existing zafu or zafu form, unless you slip your empty cover into the new one and fill both simultaneously. They also do not support a solid pillow form, but requires loose filling such as buckwheat hulls (4.5-5.5 lbs.); cotton, kapok, bamboo, or polyfiber filling (2-3 lbs.), etc.
✿In the event that you are reluctant to purchase a zafu made with only a short side zipper or velcro please read the following to see how EASY it actually is to unfill, wash, and refill my zafu covers.
✿ZAFU CARE suggestions:
Spot clean. When washing becomes necessary empty the buckwheat hulls/filling by opening the sidewall opening on the side of the zafu, and pouring the hulls into a container, such as a large bowl or cardboard box. Turn the cover inside out, and shake off any remaining hulls into the container. Pre-soak. Then, hand wash or machine wash in warm water with eco-friendly soap. Air dry, either on a line, on an absorbent towel, or low dryer setting. To refill: use the fingers of one hand to hold the opening open. With the other hand, use a funnel or something such as a clean yogurt container as a scoop. Caring for your zafu cover can be an exercise in mindfulness meditation, too. :-)
✿WORK ETHOS: Providing quality, product value, & consideration for all beings on the planet are important to me. My zafus are made utilizing new fabrics, and repurposed fabric and/or linen clothing sourced at local thrift stores. When using repurposed fabrics the zafus may have indications of a previous life i.e. stitch marks, crease marks, slight flaws or other minor cosmetic issues that will not affect the longevity or usefulness of the zafus. Please kindly take those as part/parcel of previously loved fibers.
✿CHEMICAL-FREE BUCKWHEAT HULLS are sourced from a Carolina-based business that was established by the parent of a minimally handicapped child to provide employment for her daughter and other minimally handicapped adults. The hulls are grown chemical-free in North Dakota.

Got this to fill a mystery zafu. I can see why it is the choice for filling zafus. Comfortable and natural.

About

Peace is every step.

This shop accepts debit/credit cards from both etsy and Paypal.

God/Love is good. God/Love is everywhere.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Little did I know it then but my love affair with all things linen started when Grandma Elsie came to live with us when I was a young girl. She regaled us with stories of her life growing up on a produce farm in Red Run. One of the things she told us about was how they grew flax, processed it into linen thread or yarn, and made fabric, and then clothing and household items with the fabric. She still had some bureau scarves made of that linen. When I close my eyes I can still see it, and feel it.
My love of sewing began by watching my mother making clothing and school dresses for us when I was a little girl. I've made clothing, household items, reupholstered furniture for 20 years, made many many quilts, and now meditation cushions. Sewing is what I "come home to". It's my "thang".
I was inexplicably drawn to the teachings of Paramahamsa Yogananda in my twenties. "Self-realization" was a scary term! It seemed like the utmost in heresy to me at the time. Well, that was a long time ago, and it has been quite the journey to this place called "NOW".
One of my hopes or dreams for the future is to be in a position of running a local meditation center. Meanwhile, I am attempting to live a mindful life with the company of two very precious feline friends.
If you ever visit Sarasota please schedule time to visit Siesta Key Beach. It is rated among the world's top ten most beautiful beaches.
Frequently asked questions
Can your zafu covers be used as a slipcover for my existing zafu?
No, my zafu covers are made with a sidewall zipper or velcro closure that is approx. 5-6" in length. They cannot be used as a slipcover for an existing zafu. They are made to be filled with loose filling that is filled and unfilled manually for cleaning of the cover.
Care instructions
All of my zafu fabrics were washed and dried prior to being made into zafus. This included fabrics that the manufacturer recommends dry cleaning only, because I wanted to make sure the fabrics are washable. To wash the cover unfill it into a large enough container, soak in warm water with mild soap, hand wash or on gentle cycle, rinse, air dry or towel dry. Please do not wash in hot water, use harsh soap, or dry in the dryer.
Repurposed fabric disclosure:
A number of my zafus are made with repurposed fabrics that previously were clothing, or drapery, or anything else that is suitable for a sitting cushion. These zafus may have indications of their previous incarnation such as stitch marks, creases, an occasional cosmetic blemish such as small spots or stains, or imperfections like a small bunch of heavier thread from when the fabric was being manufactured, sometimes I needed to do some or a lot of piecing to utilize the fabric as much as possible. Nothing that will affect the wearability or durability of the zafu cover.
Shipping
My buckwheat hull filled zafus ship in 1-3 days, by USPS Priority Mail, which includes a tracking number and insurance. Usually it takes 3-5 days to reach the west coast from south west Florida, excl. holidays and Sundays.
My unfilled zafu covers ship with 1-3 days, by 1st Class USPS Mail. Usually it takes from 7-10 days to reach the west coast from southwest Florida, excl. holidays and Sundays.
Custom Requests
Please read over the FAQ's prior to sending a message about a custom request. Maybe the answers you seek have already been provided.
I have made zabuton and zafu sets upon request. I have also been able to fulfill some special requests for zafus and/or zabutons, i.e., using a fabric chosen by the buyer, or provided by the buyer.
Custom requests will have to be pre-paid. I cannot accept returns on custom requests unless the items are saleable to the general public.
Wholesale availability
For multiple purchases please use Coupon Code THANKYOU for a 10% discount at checkout, ($100. minimum prior to shipping). Not for use on sale/discount items, please. Thank you!
Sizing details
The size of my zafus is approx. 15" in diameter by 5" high. They have a 5-6" long sidewall closure of either a heavy purse weight zipper or velcro; and have a carrying handle on the side as well.
Buckwheat Hulls - source, etc.
The buckwheat hulls I sell are grown in North Dakota. Buckwheat hulls are a hearty crop and as such do not require the use of chemicals in growing/harvesting.
My source is located in North Carolina. They are a business that was established to provide employment for minimally handicapped adults, including one of the owner's daughters.
Depending where you live it is better for you to purchase directly from them, and save the double shipping costs. https://buckwheathull.com/buckwheat-hulls/
To fill a zafu you will need approx. 4.5 - 5.5 lbs. of buckwheat hulls, depending upon your fullness preference. Approx. 2 lbs for a bolster.
Buckwheat Hull Zafu/Bolster maintenance
Buckwheat hulls are the dry husks/shells of buckwheat & they break down when microwaved. DON'T MICROWAVE. Hulls can have buckwheat hull MITES. They like the dust accumulation as the corners of the hulls wear down from normal use. Regular freezing is one way to manage mites in your zafu/bolster pillow. I place my polyfiber bed pillow in the freezer weekly. CLEANING HULLS: dust accumulates in the zafu when the hull corners wear down from normal use. Empty the hulls into a container. Slowly pour the hulls into another container with a fan (set on low) blowing through the hulls to clear away the dust. Or, use a sieve to separate the hulls & dust. Not an indoor task! Periodically you may need to add hulls as normal wear-down of hulls occurs.
shipping to Canada and international destinations?
Shipping buckwheat hull filled zafus to most places outside the continental U.S. is simply too expensive. Even shipping unfilled zafu covers to, say for example Australia, is very expensive. I can do it, but I believe buying local, if possible, is more in your financial best interest.
