About

Loving Nature's Colors Pure & Simple

I've been dyeing since 1975, and switching from chemical dyes to plants and natural materials was just going back to my heart's roots as a nature-loving child. I just love playing with plants, flowers, trees and anything nature offers.
When I discovered I could buy inexpensive white silk scarves for dyeing I was in heaven! and my etsy shop was born!
Dyeing is getting more and more earthy-friendly here. I'm using solar heat and time instead of the stove to extract colors. I'm using salt, baking soda, vinegar and found metal objects for mordants instead of chemicals. I'm using rainwater for a lot of the rinsing and washing so necessary in providing a clean soft finished piece.
Of course my garden is the primary resource! Flowers, ferns, trees, fruits, barks...Earth is a generous friend.
What if the purpose of life is to have fun? What's fun for me is being outdoors, fresh air, touching living forms of Earth's creativity, creating something new, unique, beautiful, interesting.

I first made plant dye in junior high. I've always loved nature and plants, and creating things from natural objects I found. I still do! Dyeing, printing, drying plants, making soap, salve, lotion, most of all, enjoying nature! Thank you, Earth!

Shop policies

I use mostly natural and organic materials, 100% non-toxic! Kind for our bodies and kind to the Earth.
I use recycled, reused and repurposed packing and shipping materials whenever I can, which is most of the time.
My garden is 100% organic, no synthetic chemicals ever.
I garden and live as much as I can in harmony with the forest around me, with the awareness that caring for the Earth is caring for life everywhere, and caring for my life means caring for the Earth.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
Plant dyes are hand washable in cool water, with pH balanced mild cleansers such as Shaklee Basic H, All Free Clear, or liquid cleansers that specify silk. Washing with acid or alkaline cleansers may change the color. Sometimes the color changes back, sometimes it doesn't.
Do not wring. Hang dry until barely damp, then put in dryer for 3 minutes maximum and iron on silk setting. This will make the silk nice and soft.
Never dry clean!!

Neckties should be spot cleaned, or immersed and VERY CAREFULLY AND GENTLY washed. It is very easy to disarrange the tie, so avoid having to wash it.

IRONING
You'll need to iron most items after washing. Do not use steam, as this can remove the sheen from the silk.
In general, avoid washing, ironing, and extended exposure to light.
Privacy
This Privacy Policy describes how and when I collect, use, and share information when you purchase an item from me, contact me, or otherwise use my services through Etsy.com or its related sites and services.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that I do not own or control, including Etsy or any third party services you access through Etsy. You can reference the Etsy Privacy Policy to learn more about its privacy practices.

GARLIC should be stored in an open container at room temperature for short term use. For longer storage, garlic requires cool, dark, dry, airy well-ventilated conditions. 50-60 degrees Farinheit is excellent. DO NOT REFRIGERATE. If garlic starts to sprout, usually in the spring, it is still ok to eat it. If it sprouts before spring, it is usually because it was stored in damp conditions that are too cold.
