I came up with the idea that we could use her Newbery Honor book to make the pendant, and Allison at AsterAndQuail got super excited about it. She even offered to source the book directly which is everywhere now. The final shade is beautiful and I cannot wait to see it hung with a warm LED light. Will update with some pictures! My client was in tears to see her book transformed into a contemporary and whimsical pendant!

Aster + Quail Studio
Welcome to our Etsy Shop! We are Allison and Elizabeth, of Aster + Quail Studio.
In our shop you will find our unique handmade wedding and event decor, as well as our collection of pendant lights for the home.
With Asteria, the ancient Greek goddess of shooting stars, as our namesake you can imagine that we are obsessed with everything illuminated. After the fall of the Titans, Asteria was pursued by Zeus through the starry heavens. To escape his advances, she transformed herself into a quail and flew into the Aegean Sea where she became the Greek island of Delos. We are proud of the many transformations Aster + Quail has been through over the years (though none due to Zeus' unwanted advances luckily). Our customers want new things, and we strive to fulfill their desires, creating new pieces as breathtaking as the starry night sky.
Each Aster + Quail piece is handcrafted by the two of us in our tiny New York City studio. Like many Etsy shops, our studio functions as a design lab, manufacturing plant and shipping facility. Some days you'll find us scouring bookstores for old books and vintage maps, or marveling at flora in the New York Botanical Garden. Other days you'll find us assembling paper flowers in the studio or designing new products together. At some point in the day we always break for a pot of tea, and for a snuggle with Basel, our security dog and product tester.
We get a lot of inspiration for our pendant light textures from everyday, often overlooked items, such as upcycled books, soda bottles, and catalogues. Some of our centerpieces are similarly inspired, while others come to us through careful study of flowers. Each piece goes through plenty of tweaking to give the design the perfect diffused glow. Sometimes a special custom designed piece will be the inspiration for a new product that you will find here in our shop.
We hope our designs, whether they be decor for a special event or a pendant light for the home, will inspire and surprise our customers. We strive for elegance, romance, and a balance of dramatic flair and architectural resonance in our designs. With Allison's background in architecture, and Elizabeth's in theatrical costume design, we see our aesthetic as a result of this combined experience.

Returns and exchange details
For change of heart returns, please mail the item back within 30 days, and you will be refunded for the entire purchase cost, minus original and return shipping. We are more than happy to print out a return label for you through UPS so you have access to our cheaper bulk rates. We recommend shipping with a trackable shipping method because we cannot provide a refund until the item has been returned.

Payment
If you are having any issues with payment, please contact us directly. Items will not ship until payment has been received and cleared.
Shipping
Most items include production time in the listing, if there is going to be a further delay for any reason we will let you know. Once your purchase has shipped, an email will be sent with tracking information. Domestic orders ship with USPS, UPS Ground or FedEx Home Delivery and International orders ship with the US Postal Service (6-10 business days). In some cases customs may delay a package for up to 6 weeks without our control. Hopefully this will never happen.
If you would like to pay for faster shipping, or insurance on an item, please send us a message before making your purchase so that the shipping costs can be amended.

Custom and Personalized Orders
We love doing customized orders! Some of our pendant lights and centerpieces can be made in customized sizes, and some can have their color or paper material customized. If you are interested in something special, please send us a message with as much info as possible about what you have in mind, and we will get back to you with feasibility and pricing as soon as we can.
Returns - Further Information
If your item is damaged please contact us immediately and we will arrange for you to return the item for a full refund (including all shipping costs) or receive an exchange. **Damaged items must be received back within 60 days for a full refund.**
For change of heart returns you will be responsible for both original and return shipping costs but will receive a full refund for the item. Items must be shipped back within 30 days, and we are not responsible for any damage that occurs while the item is shipped back to us.
Cleaning Our Lights
To clean the Manhasset collection lights, use a dry cloth and wipe down from top to bottom. Don't worry about pressing down on the petals, they will bounce back into place when you are finished.
To clean the Dakota collection lights, use a can of compressed air to gently blow the dust off. You can buy a can of compressed air at any office supply store or online.
For the Beaumont collection, you probably won't find that your light is collecting much dust, but if you do need to clean it simply use a can of compressed air to gently blow the dust off. You can buy a can of compressed air at any office supply store or online.
