Hello. Welcome to Azumi Sakata world.
Azumi Sakata was born in Japan, in 1971.
She graduated in Fine Art from Musashino Art University in Japan and then completed an MA in Printmaking at the Royal College of Art in England.
She presently lives in Tokyo, working as a creator and teaching art.
Azumi’s creative pieces are focused on embroidery but also include installations and oil paintings.
She has adapted a traditional European technique called goldwork to create handmade accessories and artworks.
Her materials include a special thread woven from brass, alongside metal, pearl, coral, glass and antique beads. Each piece is handmade by Azumi and has its own unique character, even if part of a series.
The theme of her accessories derives from the concepts behind her fine-art work:
“Life and Death”; “Fear and Love”; “To express things not seen”.
