About zouzousbasement

These animal collages have been really popular. It seems that everyone relates to animals.

Some of the animal collages I make into prints after the original has sold.

Flowers and the garden are a recurring theme, often completed in January or February while I wait for spring.

I never get tired of these color studies when I see a combination of colors that makes my heart beat faster.

I am also intrigued by desserts and the language associated with sweets such as Sugar Fix, Sweet Nothings, Hello Cupcake
Color is my daylong obsession, joy, and torment (Claude Monet).
ZouZou was the name of my grandmother, and it was in her basement that I first found items to paint. Ironically, my studio is in my attic. It is filled with paint, paper, ribbon, and all sorts of ephemera. Organized chaos. Color and whimsy make me feel happy and alive, and I try to see the bright side whenever I can. So many people have told me they have one of my paintings in their bathroom that I have declared myself Virginia's first Toilet Artist (maybe the world's first). I tend to work in series to fully explore an idea I may have, so if you see a type of painting you like but are unable to get it, most likely another one of the sort will be along soon. I can't stand to throw anything away, so it is natural that leftover paper from my notecards end up on my paintings. I stay busy making things every day (and also teach ages 4 - 94), and often do commissions.
