About

Purses With A Punch

Brooklyn, NY (July 21, 2014) – Brooklyn based product designer, Zunnania Anderson, releases a line of accessories which incorporate weapons in a bold yet subtle balance. Carrying the tag line “Protect Your Assets”, the collection’s play on weaponry and focus on functionality is intended to inspire her female audience to brush up on self-defense techniques. Currently, the collection features gun and grenade shape wallets called Money Bags, a clutch with a built-in knuckle duster titled The Knock Out Clutch, and the knuckle duster Knock Out Chains.

Protect Your Assets’ use of out of the box fabrics, including burlap and velvet, juxtaposed against classic materials like leather and steel keeps theses designs innovative both in concept and construction. “I love mixing the unexpected. It’s fun to take a utilitarian fabric like burlap, that’s rough and unruly and transform it into an elegant purse.
Or, screen-print an image of a grenade over a soft silk brocade. There is a certain satisfaction, it’s balance and defiance in the same breath.”

For quality control as well as ethical reasons, Zunnania’s process from sketch to final product is very contained. Manufacturing most of her products at her Brooklyn design studio, if outsourcing is required, local manufactures in Brooklyn and Manhattan are used. “When you understand the process of making a shirt or pouring plastic into a mold to make a purse handle, you gain a lot of respect for the craftsmanship, and a realistic sense of what to pay and what to charge. When things are developed overseas you lose some of that understanding and respect.”
