About

It's All In The Making

I've been making jewelry for around thirteen years. Looking back now, I can't believe how quickly time has gone by!

The process of creating jewelry has always been very organic for me. Generally it starts with a little idea, and piece by piece it comes together. I see a lot of inspiration in the world, but when I began, I found a lot of beauty in historical art and cultures, with a particular focus in Southeast Asia. I feel that this has actually stayed with me to a degree, but now my inspiration is a little more diverse. I feel like inspiration can come from anywhere these days, whether it be a song a friend, or a my travels. From there, I gravitate towards the materials that draw my attention. Sometimes it's the color of a gem, or striations in the surface of a bead. The tactile feeling comes next. If I don't like the way it feels in my hands, I keep looking. It's different every time. Sometimes my mood calls for something with some rough edges, other times I respond more the smooth curves. I think this is why you can see my mood in a lot of my work.

My jewelry has really evolved over the years. When I started, it was primarily gemstones paired with simple techniques. I'm always wanting to try new things, so I try to incorporate new materials and ideas into what I make. It's always important to keep things fresh, but not to follow trends to closely. My overall philosophy about jewelry, and fashion in general, is to always wear what makes you look and feel amazing. Lately, I'm working a lot with crystals and leather. I enjoy being able to add personal touches to my jewelry, so I have gone from buying most of my jewelry findings to making them myself. I make the majority of my own ear wires and metal components. This gives me the freedom to create quality items that are really unique. In the future I am hoping to incorporate metal work into my pieces.

This is definitely a passion of mine. I love being able to create something from an idea, and for me, few things are better than seeing someone wear my jewelry.

And I've also got some exciting news - if you find yourself in the Chicago area, you can visit my retail shop to see even more beautiful handcrafted designs! Located in the Andersonville Galleria, which is a fabulous collection of over 90 local artists, specialty retailers, and small shops under one roof. Open seven days a week, the Galleria is like a year-round art festival. I've always wanted to have a small brick and mortar shop, and I'm so happy I finally have one. Come by and check it out!
