Photo Postcards - Extinct Los Angeles Coffee Shops

Item details

archival, photography, color ink

Eight photo postcards of long-gone iconic Los Angeles coffee shops including the rocket arrow signage from Ship's, the blue classic lines of Nickodell on Melrose, long forgotten Googie downtown, the towering Wichstand, Goody's, Tiny Naylors Sunset Blvd car hop drive-in and the Penguin in Santa Monica, now a credit dentist office - ouch! Bonus shot displays the Ships' sign in Culver City stripped of its neon, getting a face lift. These distinctive signs were mostly erased from the landscape in the 1990s (though some remain in altered states).

These simple photo postcards are scanned from Ektachrome transparencies shot in the 1980s and '90s. They are printed on 4x6 inch archival cotton rag paper with archival ink, preserving distinctive signage which once made Los Angeles a city of visual treats.
