Original Post

I just completed a hand knit vest and am ready to list it on Etsy. Just wondering if those of you who knit clothing items have a formula for pricing items.
If we were to really count the hours that we put into hand knit items, no one would be able to afford the items I am sure.
Just wondering if those of you who are experienced at pricing items could give me some idea on how to not cheat my self but yet offer a reasonably priced item. thanks!

i think i price my stuff on the low side. at least that's what people tell me. i just think, what would i pay for this in a store? i also look up similar items on etsy to see what others are charging. then i figure out a price.

I know that sample knitters make .10-.15 per yard for knitted items. Not sure what crochet goes for.

You can never price knitted items fairly. Especialy complex ones like vest.

Those who hand knit have to complete with all the inexpensive machine knit items available in the Big Box stores. Considering the knitter's time and the price of the yarn and materials it would cost quite a bit more than for something that was machine knitted. Thus, it's hard to price without over pricing.
