I've just started researching various mthods of beling able to porcess credit card purchases at shows. In your opinion, what are the pros and cons concerning ProPay and the Square Card Reader (available at Wal-Mart) www.walmart.com/ip/Square-Credit-Card-Reader-for-iPhone-iPod-and-iP...

The main differences that I see right off:

• ProPay charges for their reader ($40); SquareUp is free.
• ProPay has an annual fee ($60); SquareUp has no monthly/annual fees.
• Both have the transaction fees:
ProPay swipe rate: 2.19%+.25 - keyed 2.99%+.30
SquareUp swipe rate: 2.75% - keyed 3.5% +.15

I'm not familiar with ProPay, but I use Square, and I really like it. The reader was free (get it from the website), I got it really fast, and it's so easy to use. They give you your $ by the next day.
I've heard good things about square but never used it myself.

I know that Paypal is coming out with their own version where funds instantly go to your paypal account, might be worth looking into...
i use square , it is nice and easy, fees are not to bad and i never had any problems with it
Another square user here - love it!!
I just got square. Haven't used it yet, but I like the free part of it, and I think transaction rates are great.

I use propay - because I started with them prior to square coming out. My swiped rate is lower (I think 1.99%) It's also been useful to have an alternative for invoicing when people prefer to not use Paypal. And if you search, you'll find a thread and coupon code/link for basically half off the annual fees.

Another advantage is their customer service. I've always been able to quickly get a live person on the phone and resolve any issues. I think square help is by twitter?

I am with Megan, a propay user. I do not have a fancy phone or any of those other devices. I do not plan on getting one, either. So, for us simple folk, propay works great.I am going on 4 years with them and I receive the Etsy discount.

I was at a show recently and there was no wifi or computer connections. All the sellers with all the fancy stuff were complaining about no service and having a difficult time with CC's. i had my handy, old fashioned knuckle buster and receipts. Went home and entered all the cc'sonline. Sometimes the old ways are the best. :)
I got a square card reader in the mail yesterday and can't wait to use it. I'm also on the waiting list for PayPal's card reader as well... Can't wait to see that thing in action.
