The "Who" of Handmade

But it's etsy that has it in their banner on the front page - aren't they responsible for running their side according to law ? Would be good to have a lawyer here.
I just looked to see if famous "designers" like Snooki and the Kardashians have set up shop yet. Not yet...but it should be exciting. I'm looking forward to watching all the celebs having price wars with the long established "collectives". I think I hear the tidal wave approaching, so it's back under my rock for me.
All my items will have expired by August and my shop will be empty (hey, I paid for the listings). I know I won't be missed by Etsy and I will miss the exposure being on Etsy brings, but I will not *ever* want anyone to *ever* wonder if my books are really handmade. By me. In my sweatshop of one. You know, guilt by association. I've registered my own domain and I have also found a venue that is diligent in maintaining HANDMADE not mass produced.
I may not get the same exposure but I WILL have maintained my integrity.

I'm HUMILIATED that I bought so many biz cards and clothing labels associated with Etsy and my shop name!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+going to bathe in bleach now+
marking to read later.
I feel that a peaceful protest will accomplish more.
I have spent 4 days now obsessing over this and checking each day to see if anything has changed. Nothing.

I put the shop in vacation mode with a message in solidarity with true artists.
My shop sells vintage - but I love that I have access to quality handmade goods from artisans I trust.

I have taken it for granted that that's what Etsy was all about.

Protest with your shop.
Put it in vacation mode and spread the word.

We are a community and this problem requires action by the whole community.
I've been here almost 4 years now. About every 8 mos there is an uproar. People protest people leave. more people come to sell. People come and people go, for a variety of reasons.

You can protest by putting your shop in vacation mode, but the only person you are hurting when you do that, is yourself.

I'm not putting my shop on vacation mode...I'm finally getting traffic...but I DO wish this would get settled...

Seriously though, I don't think that anything has changed because it's been this way for as long as I've been paying attention. I doubt very much that they had planned to officially let the cat out of the factory-made bag in this way and would have preferred to control the spin themselves but now that it's undeniable and the drama has already happened they might as well just get the freaking out over with. Honestly, I don't think that any amount of public drama is going to change anything because Etsy is just not that important in the big picture of things. It would have to be a really slow news day for any large outlet to care. I mean seriously - how many people in the etsy target demographic do you think are reading the WSJ every day?
