Well of course etsy wants etsy to be successful....that's a given. And yes, they have to answer to their investors now....but without sellers they don't have business....so yes, to a certain extent they do care about how we do...maybe not like on a personal, individual level but I personally don't expect that....

As far as consulting us before a change...I don't agree that they need to do that...logically they are a private company so I don't expect them to do that myself but that is of course my humble opinion lol.

No they don't have to consult, but since you are their "CUSTOMER", as any other company would do... they would give a HEADS UP (advance warning) of what is to come and date this will happen, so that you are not caught up in the headlights with doe eyes.
I dunno....I would love a heads-up I suppose, but I'm not expecting it nor am I mad I didn't get it. Also, not sure what we could've done to prepare for this that would've made it much better....I guess just not being caught by surprise?

ETA_ I'm not trying to argue :) Just thinking aloud about what you said :)
Think about what they have done...they have taken an entire category and only given it to a select few and of that select few, they have several of their items featured, leaving everyone else in the cold. What if they decide to do that in the Childrens category or the Bath and Beauty Category for example.

How is this even right? Is this legal?

That is your opinion, of course. My opinion is that I expect them to consult. If a company depends on the success of smaller companies, it's a grave oversight not to.
How about we meet here in 6 months and compare opinions then?
Please, I want the old wedding category BACK!

If it's not broken, DON'T fix it!

ok, let's all take a deep breath...there, hopefully things feel a wee bit better now.

etsy is ultimately here to HELP us, to help us be good sellers, creators, photographers, etc. they WANT us to succeed. the more we sell, the more etsy profits as well. this is important and needs to be remembered.

how about giving the new format a chance? it may end up to be lovelier and better than we can imagine.

change is scary, but often quite good.

just my thoughts:)

I'm not opposed to change, in fact I made a list of 7 things etsy could do to make itself a much better and happier place included in that list were some major fundamental changes like getting rid of tags all together.

But not all change is good. Relevancy was and is everywhere else very good. Stats are great, the new shipping tool is very good and should be a hit when it goes live for everyone.

But this is bad.

Relevancy EXPANDED results for buyer, this SHRINKS them. Seeing fewer and LESS relevant items (like women's earrings in the groom section) is not helpful. And hurts.

Etsy wants to make more money. We as sellers have to make sure we guide them in the right direction over the long term which might mean less increase over the short term.

True story. Circuit city decided they wanted to make more money. They fired all the exprienced sales staff and offered to hire them back at new worker wages. Those that refused were replaced by men of the street with no exprience. At time the hire ups thought they were so brilliant but anyone with a long term vision saw clearly that it was a BAD idea. And because of that choice, there is no circuit city anymore.

Etsy might be foolish enough to expand this to other categories, who knows, they never listen to use anyway, trying to be a pinterest or a Facebook, but if they keep this and expand it, it will reduce sales and retention as well as helping supadupa or whoever else finally get of the ground. It can happen and it can happen fast. This move would be that.

As with circuit city, the reason is simple, for cc the fired the leaders and left their stores a mess. For etsy this change is irrational and displays fewer less relevant items. And that's the death mark.
I really apologize if I'm missing something, and I don't mean to be dense. But just so I understand...the new Weddings section is curated by Etsy's staff, yes? Kind of like the front page?

Because if it's not, I'm confused. For the general search, we pop up in relevancy quite high -- specifically, our tea and spice kit wedding favors -- and have for months.

But when I click on the new wedding section -- and drill down into favors -- we're nowhere in there. Nor are a lot of other edible wedding favor shops who also pop up fairly high on the relevancy searches.

So...if this is a new, just-a-sample-of-all-the-fabulous-items-here-on-Etsy-curated-by-Etsy-staff section, then this makes total sense. If it's not....then I'm confused. (Maybe I just need more coffee!)
Yes, but the general public will not realize that this is just a sample because at the end it says "no more items"
I was excited at first because I sell bridal, but now...I find a reseller in the curated wedding section....
