Anna, I see that shawls are included under "Shrugs and boleros" but how would a shopper know to look for a shawl there, given that a shawl is neither a shrug nor a bolero? It's just bad word choices -- either they should include shawls in the category title, or have a separate section for wraps and shawls.

---

That certainly does not seem fair, especially since a quick search for handmade "wedding shawl" returns over 5600 items! That's frustrating. :/

Jane I checked tags on some of the featured items and not all begin with Weddings so I don't think that is a factor. Some did not even include Weddings as a tag.

I think they should have left the Weddings category alone. If they want to have a new Discover Weddings at the top in addition to the Fashion, Kids whatever then fine do that but hijacking the categories section to do it is just not working!

So when this says that the items are not able to be added to a registry if they are sold out does this mean that if it sells, then the item is totally removed from all the buyers who previously had added it to their lists?

I relist most things ASAP but not sure if the item gets booted off the list completely or will magically reappear when it gets relisted.

Thanks

We don't remove unavailable items from the registrant's view of the registry, but they are hidden for guests. For registrants, we encourage them to contact the seller or explore more items from the shop if the item sells out.
oh vernon!! nice to see you! hope you can answer our questions
Hi Vernon,

Does it get replaced automatically when relisted?

Thanks!
I'm not a Wedding seller but have been here for 5 years with my Etsy shops. Before that, I sold on Ebay for many years. I have observed a good deal about how each marketplace works and how they have evolved over the years.

The new Wedding page is a great idea and looks like a nice curated blog post. However, the Wedding category has been obliterated in the process. Relevancy as a default is fine for Search but not for Browsing. Buyers are very limited now with discovering new and fresh content. The new Wedding page should be placed along with the other curated content under Discover. It should work as a complement to the former Weddings category, not as a replacement. As it stands, the Wedding link now takes you to what looks like a mix between the blog, Discover, and an expanded version of the admin-chosen "gift guides" that were taken down years ago. Sellers have no way of advertising their work through showcases (done away with) and cannot gain exposure through renewing to show up in "Recently Listed" under their own category. It has been stated that results are listed by relevancy but when you do a normal search for a given sub-category or "tag", they are not the same results. Also, multiple sellers are featured in the sub-categories while thousands are excluded. So, it's not the same relevancy algorithm. As an example, when I do a search for guest book and drill down to Weddings, the results are not the same as the items listed under Paper Goods/Guest Books in the new category.

I feel bad for the shops who have spent years on their businesses only to wake up to find everything completely changed today with no warning. It is a major shift in the way site traffic is being directed. Ebay did this same thing years ago, by switching their categories (as well as Search) to Relevancy from Recently Listed. It killed traffic to my shop there and it never recovered even though I spent the same in listing fees as other sellers whose listings came up higher.

A question for admin - Is a similar change planned for all the other categories? A new admin-curated page with limited category discovery, no Showcase spots and all items ranked via Relevancy instead of Recently Listed? This type of change will affect all of us and we would love some advance warning to prepare our shops.
I just hope Etsy admin can understand all our anxiety and frustration and will offer us all some reassurance that we will be listened to, and that answers to the problems we've bought up can be found quickly before our businesses start to suffer.
Yes, the new page is difficult to navigate. I was trying to find my subcategory and it was really tricky. Please don't replace the wedding category with this, just have it in addition.

A good reason to notify the seller that a listing has been put on a registry.
