Hidden negative feedback!?

So what is the reasoning behind it then? My brain just doesn't want to wrap around this, it does not make any sense whatsoever.

Why in the world would Etsy make buyers negative feedback a secret?
Yes, a vindictive negative feedback given to a Seller is hanging out
in the wind for everyone who cares to look to see it.

Not so with a Buyer.

It stinks.

To answer the question just above me: Why did etsy make Buyer feedback secret?

Well, we used to could see all f/b, Buyer & Seller. Then, someone bought something
personal that they didn't want everyone else to see.

Bingo! So, etsy kowtows to this person and hides ALL Buyer f/b.

There ya go! In a nutshell!

Etsy had some privacy issues awhile back when they set up the option to add your real name to your profile. All of the sudden, people's purchases became publicly linked to their names. To fix this breach of privacy, Etsy made all buyer feedback private. And so that is how it came to be.
I offered this suggestion in IDEAS a while back. Some buyers didn't like my idea! I, personally, WANT to see the negative feedback for buyers.
I had a buyer who had a FEW negatives, and they only HAD a few feedbacks! So, it looked really bad....but I sent the item & WORRIED WHAT would happen. Nothing bad happened, but I would have felt more at ease if I know WHAT the feedback said!
ETSY: PLEASE LET US SEE BUYER FEEDBACK!!

We take the time to leave feedback, we should be able to see it! THANKS!
I'd love to be able to see all feedback as well.

Buyer's positive and neutral feedback is hidden too. Not just negative.
I think this is a great idea. I used to check customers out before I sold fairly large orders to them and now I cant. It makes me feel a little insecure sometimes.
I'd read a lot about buyers taking advantage of shop owners on this site, if they released the buyers negative and neutral feedback I think it would lessen this problem... at least by a little. If buyers get to see shop owners negative feedbacks, shop owners should be able to see theirs too. It would make the buying and selling process a bit more self-assuring. if that's the word.
I did not know that And I was leaving feedback so sellers would know what great buyers they were and to be helpful and I guess it was sort of waste of time can we see at least if it was positive?
It's not a waste of time to leave positive feedback to your buyers, Charley.
'They' can see it.

Yes, this issue has been brought up a bazillion times.
Is Etsy on the side of the buyer ?....of course.
And we, as the sellers who make the money for them?....not so much.

If ONE buyer bought an item that was 'personal' and didn't want the feedback seen, and then Etsy applies it across the board so that ALL buyers feed-backs can't be seen, then, that should tell you something.

I can't count how many times Sellers have asked for a change on this.
And when a seller gets negative feedback....(sometimes unjustified,) and they get upset...(understandably so), and write to Etsy support for help...help is not available. You live with the neg. feedback This is what we sometimes refer to as being held 'hostage' to neg. feedback...because buyers know...they're in the clear.

Is it fair?....well, not really, no.
Will it change?...I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
it's just one of those quirks we learn to live with on here.
