Search engine bug?

I've noticed that a lot of vintage jewelry items are returned when searching for handmade jewelry. Even though they are titled & tagged vintage.

When I look at the item details the field labelled "about this item" says
"handmade by " store name

Could it be that that's why they appear in the search? This started happening since the new wedding section opened

if the lead question was made by me then it would be in the handmade section. if they are made by someone else before 1993 then they would be tagged vintage.

so either they are mistagged or they are vintage pieces that have been altered.
so how are you searching. are you in the handmade section searching for handmade jewelry? or wedding section searching for jewelry. what are the specific of your search?

Any item on Etsy can have the word "vintage" in the title and as a tag. The item does not have to be made with vintage materials or be an altered vintage item.

Vintage as a category is supposed to be for items 20+ years old, not altered by the seller.

If the About this item Attribute says it was Handmade by (seller), then it was not listed in the Vintage category. So Etsy's search engine is working properly.

I was searching the handmade section for handmade jewelry for "rhinestone necklaces"

Regarding the previous post - take a look at the data

Rose, I did that search, and saw several unaltered vintage necklaces on the first page. I looked at listings in detail, and they are described as "a find" and talk about condition. That is not how an artisan describes their work.

This happens during the listing process when the seller chooses "I made it" from the drop down options for who made the item. It is not a search engine bug, it was caused by category misuse. You can report these items to Etsy, but I have never seen the staff do anything about mass made vintage, unaltered, items listed as handmade by the seller.
if they list it incorrectly the search engine does not know that. it is user error. the computer can't "see" the photos unfortunately.
the ones i looked at may have said vintage in the tags and titles, but they were in the handmade by... category. the elements may have been vintage, but it looks like the shop owners have altered or reconfigured them.

I saw some altered ones, and some not. The altered vintage pieces are handmade by Etsy standards, and belong in the handmade Jewelry category.
