loopy -- do you have an idea of which resellers we're gonna check out to see what *^&^^@$$@ they write? Or the pictures?

This is how we can differentiate ourselves from resellers. Its not perfect but its a start.

Agreed, Loop.
A reseller could go to the trouble of forging a fakey About page, but I doubt that many would. Certainly not the weekend warriors around here. This is the page that Chad spoke of in his blog post regarding the featured seller controversy:

"We’ve been actively working on product changes — starting even before this particular incident — to promote more transparency into the production processes of all Etsy sellers, and to shop businesses as a whole. I’m committed to continuing that work and providing greater transparency, even within the constraints of privacy. I know how much our community cares about preserving what makes Etsy special, and we do, too."

admin -- could you please address my issue in bugs:

It seems that Etsy is unable to save or offer me a preview of all my work on my about page

Hey Runz!

Just answered you in Bugs as well.

The problem is happening when people don't have an owner. So if you enter a member, then delete it, then add another one but don't choose "owner" as the role, the whole form breaks.

We are working on a quick fix. Sorry for the troubles.

Sadly, I doubt that the About page will make much difference to buyers who are already buying from the resellers here. whether it is faked or blank, the About page will be the least of this demographic's concerns.
For me its like the profile is just basic information, the truncated format is not user friendly or encouraging to read.

This format is beautiful the ability to add pictures is fabulous and very appealing, the text and basic format is inviting and its a way for shops owners to express thems in a more colorful and artsy way.

I don't read profiles but I will read these!
Yes Etsy, the new About pages are a fantastic addition!
It was glitchy for me at first (it kept wiping out all of my text after Preview), but seems to be working now, for me at least.

I just did a mock-up for now, and am wondering if it's Googleable -- so that we can make our entries keyword rich.

And as for other private people (I hear ya), just throw up a picture of a cute bunny or something, and then advertise your wares.

I assume we're not supposed to duplicate content, if we want to remain in the Google radar, is that right?

And can we please have some direction with this? An Announcement at top with links to the how-to information? Many thanks.

Gypsy, So which is which? Profile page I would guess would be about you??? About would be about your shop??? But yet your profile has no place for a photo, but your About page does. It just seems a bit silly to have both to me. Not many people care about this stuff other than the sellers anyway. I doubt many of my customers ever even read my profile page......so I doubt very much they will pay attention to the About page either. But for those that feel it's so important to their business I'm very happy for you.

I guess I just wish more time were spent on getting other issues and proplems on the site resolved, rather than adding something new like this.

Karen, I can say honestly that I read the profile page of EVERY shop I visit. Call me silly, but a lot of times a profile page may be the "make or break" element of whether I buy from someone or not.

I'm certain it's just like anything else - some of us will love this feature, others will see no use for it. For those who see no use for it, then it's not a requirement as far as I can tell. :-)

Thank you to the engineers for NOT making this live on a Friday afternoon so that you can quickly respond to the glitches reported in the forum by real users.
Very nice feature! I will have to check it out.
