Hi there,

Vintage sellers are welcome to set up About Pages as well! But keep in mind, it's optional. Here is one great example: www.etsy.com/shop/Advintagous/about

ElleJay, feel free to click on my 'About' page and see the near-complete lack of personal information on there. My shop is my shop; my personal life is my own!
This is just my personal view, but I cannot imagine why anyone would find stacks of banana boxes and plastic bins interesting. The items in them are shown already in my shop.

When I open my handmade costume jewelry shop -- not on Etsy! -- I will be happy to show my huge stash of vintage beads somewhere linked to that shop. That's relevant because it shows a kind of preview of items I might make, or could make custom if a buyer wanted a design in a different colorway.

But that part of my life isn't relevant to Etsy. Because I won't sell handmade on a site with so many reseller jewelry shops. I don't think the people at Etsy HQ would want me to put pics of my bead collection on an About page and say why I won't be selling my jewelry on Etsy.
Thankfully, I was directed to this thread! I just posted a question about this topic and am glad to find this to read through...

Maybe it would be a good place to showcase some personal items and collections? I mean if you collect dolls or figurines you could arrange them attractively and take some 'group shots' just to show them off, and to display your interest in vintage goodies? Just an idea!

Very good idea! Thank you for that suggestion! I think that would be a great thing to put in.
I like the way ThePlayfulNeedle has set up her shop with a picture representing her business rather than a portrait.

I too am not photogenic and dont want a picture of myself plastered all over the web.

However I do have some great pics of my grandma who first got me interested in vintage costume, antiques and travel with her wonderful tales of when she and grandpa were in India and the Middle East back in the days of the British Empire. Grandpa was in the diplomatic service so they spent many years out there. I also inherited a lot of "stuff" from her. Some of what I inherited I still have but other bits of bric a brac began my career as a dealer. So I do believe she deserves an honoured place in my shop.
I am certainly vintage. Whoooo boy! Am I vintage! Verifiable!

How is this new profile page different from the one we already have? I already have my "back story", as you young 'uns are calling it, written up and posted on my profile page. Yes sir, its a story, that's for sure... and it goes waaaay back ..... until it popped up here!

Is this a second profile page?

And what is this FREAKING AWESOME in the announcement? Is Barnum's Museum Show coming to town?

I sell books and paper, and etc. The competition for finding this material can be stiff. You won't find me revealing my secret hunting grounds. Especially for the etc. Anyway I like to think that my shop is one of those secret hunting grounds.

Sometimes my shop certainly does feel like a closely-held secret. haw haw.

Many of us are private people, and also for safety reasons, at times it may be best to keep what's personal, personal.

However, I'm seeing more and more pages that are thoroughly entertaining without giving away 'secrets'.

And so if it helps make that 'connection' with someone, and provide buyers' confidence, then why not?
Cross posted with Josiah (who was mentioning 'secrets' as well, lol).
