We put sugar in cornbread. But i have never heard anyone say...we done went...

@sami really shrimp and cheese...in grits? ewww! but then again shrimp make me throw up so ya know...i don't eat them :) i don't eat ay seafood except tuna really, just don't like it. ironic since i'm from the east coast - literally born 15 miles from the jersey shore LOL
twocool - it was a first for me at the time too. but then again the area i went to school in and where a lot of the students were from were very, i don't know how to put it... um, i'll just say they were interesting. and some of them spoke very strangely (IMO) but to them I was the one speaking strangely so it was all OK. you get used to it after a while and by the time i left i could understand just about any Southerner. i don't have any trouble with texan accents, never have. western and eastern tennessee and kentucky are hard for me. i think maybe it has something to do with the mountain areas maybe? that they have a heavier accent and use lots of different slang words and sentence structure sometimes. who knows, who cares.

is "make a sell" a southern thing?

Hi Alex – just wanted to let you know that it's not nice to address your ill-bred, bigoted humor to a generalized regional demographic. It makes you seem…well…two bricks short of a load.

Speaking of "southern things", your comment reminded me of something (or should I say sumthin – to keep your low expectations of southern dialog intact) my granddad used to say…"If I put his brain in a nat's butt, it would fly backwards." I don't really know what that means…but I know it's real, real bad.
… ;)

ETA: Sorry - Came right over from page 1...
The more syllables the better. Don't y'all know anything?

As to the the original post... from the way the scenario is presented, it seems that the shop owner was a little harsh. It's unfortunate that she/he has lost a future customer (you). We're all human here and perhaps said owner was having a bad day.
It's like the Civil War up in here. Good thing I'm in Maryland. I can stay neutral ;)
