Oh and now that I see in another thread that etsy is storing customers credit card info without asking permission, I have to guard my customers a little better than that.

Camilla and Nicole,

I just wanted to give you a heartfelt thanks for being so available for questions with these new changes. I really adore that you are jumping on our questions and providing clear available answers so promptly!

Thank you!

Agree. Its refreshing to get clear answers, even if the answer is: we are not sure yet.

On another note has anyone using DC encountered needing to invoice a seller for an additional amount if they request an upgrade after purchasing? I'm concerned I may get a buyer who chooses not have paypal requesting an upgrade and I do not know how I would handle this in a way that is compliant with Etsy's TOU since I can not create a separate listing for the upgrade per these rules... I get Camilla's response that invoicing is something they are going to be working on, but what do we do in the meantime? this is a pretty major thing for my custom orders as the price can fluctuate widely, and the buyer isn't always clear about their needs prior to purchasing so I can create an accurate listing for them... I am VERY concerned about this (anxiety kicking in)
Well, I bit the bullet and signed up this morning. I already had a purchase with DC. Now I just have to wait the 10 day period to get my money. Hoping for more sales!!!
Yeah too many things still being worked on, let me know when the official roll out of "ready"" is. :-)
Hi - For direct checkout - are the fees different for international sales? I am a US shop and are international sales allowed?

Thx, MJ

I do hope Etsy can find some other way to decrease risk, because there is just no way, and no incentive that could make me willing to have my money tied up for weeks for an undisclosed period of time until I become eligible for a system that they haven't even rolled out yet

well said... I would need something much more concrete from Etsy before I even considered this (especially since I already have this from paypal). The vagueness of the explanation of when one "qualifies" would be a deal breaker for me :(

____

Hi MJ,
No. Fees are the same regardless of where the buyer is.

Could you be more specific about what you mean by establishing a sales history? Number of years selling? Number of sales? I understand you don't want to say for example 100 sales without a complaint or 75 positive feedback ratings but an idea would be helpful to know if we might even make it into the ballpark.

________

Deb,
We're looking at some orders clearing with no chargebacks or disputes. The numbers will be appropriate per shop, not a one size fits all.

Is this number of sales total or number of sales with Direct Checkout?

Also, by chargebacks, you are not referring to refunds or cancelled transactions are you?

_____

Hi Cyn,
No, I am referring to a customer complaint coming in from the buyer's credit card company. Thresholds will generally on a per shop basis, when this is available, as there is not one size fits all for Etsy, and we expect for shops to be communicated with individually. Also, for risk management purposes, thresholds will not be made public in the forum threads. Sorry I cannot be more clear.

If true, this might well cause them some data protection problems in the EU. They should probably reconsider this idea.

Not that I expect them to, given Etsy's history with protecting people's personal data. But it would certainly be worth them looking into it, because it doesn't sound entirely compliant with the UK DPA to me.
Camilla - Thank you for clarifying that....good to 'see' you again...happy you got the Direct Checkout system going....Congratulations!! It seems to be a success! :)
