some ways to protect your self from Kissmetrics

this may remove the kissmetric tag from your LSO's I just installed and ran it now...
(but I had to remove ALL my LSOs and don't know enough yet to know if the "self replicating" nature of the kissmetrics will keep it hidden on my machine.

better privacy
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/betterprivacy/

installed yesterday Adblock
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=ad+block&cat=all&x=17&y=10

Ghostery (will tell you what trackers are used on a site, and will give you links to see what that cookie or tracker actually DOES and who it is from)

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=ghostery&cat=all&x=25&y=18

I have not yet found anything that is specifically a Kissmetric removal tool.
Please pass this information along.

What are LSOs?

great resources here. thanks for sharing.
better privacy deleted 31 lso's...how many deleted for you, trinlayk?
yes, what are LSOs, please?
LSOs are the flash files that Kissmetrics would attach tags to, so as to identify you and track you all over the net.

KIssmetrics is NOT the usual tracking cookie, even if you were removing the specific file, it was replicating in the LSOs and reinstalling itself as you were working on removing it.

I'm not sure this is anywhere near a complete fix yet... that is why I'm hoping someone will have a specific kissmetric removal tool for this.

I confess, I hadn't stayed on top of them... so I think it was something around "metric crapload" I just hit the button for "delete them all"

I may need some of them later, but I'll just pick up new ones if I end up needing them...

Found this on Google...
Local shared objects, sometimes referred to as "Flash cookies," are data files that can be created on your computer by the sites you visit. ...
If you use Safari, there is an option under "Preferences">"Show Cookies" to block all third party cookies, which is what kissmetrics uses. It doesn't require any add ons.

p.s. My sister says that when you do third party blocking in Google Chrome, it is also blocking third party cookies from Quantserve, which is what Artfire uses.
