I still don't understand why we can't choose our -own- key words.
==============
because Etsy hasn't spent enough money building the database for this so our choices are very limited?
Or maybe to keep people from being the only person who buys a particular keyword, which could happen in smaller niches. Some of the missing words have fairly large search results, though, so that can't be it
==========================
I would settle for at least being able to use the key words/phrases that I've already used as my tags.
That is a piece of nostalgia, the Hello Kitty threads of years past. Ahhhh, good times.
wonder what this is all about:

"facebook $0.002056 $2.06"

Was this list copied from somewhere else? Why would Facebook be a legal tag here? It seems to be a popular one so I am not understanding. I

People do sell tutorials on how to increase sales using facebook. I could see someone using that tag.

MirroredSkyCreations, asks a great question above. Let me clarify and clear up any confusion as that is not how Search Ads will work.

Your $.20 listing fee puts your item in search for 4 months (until your item expires or is sold). Therefore, your items will still be searchable if you decide to not use Search Ads. Search Ads will replace the Recently Listed row you see now when you search. For an example of what Search Ads will look like in action, see the first image (below the video) in the blog post, here:

Hope this helps!

So we are paying for what we are currently getting for free?

I am asking if our recently listed items will go away and be replaced with paid ads? I have quite a few items that come up at the top as recently listed because those keywords have few items in them and after next week I will loose those free spots and will have to pay for them if I still want them there?

How is it a bonus for my business if, starting next week, I have to pay for what I am currently getting free?

There is NO form of advertising guaranteed to bring in sales - the main thing is to advertise in the market where 'your' customers are. If Etsy is that market - and it is for most of us - then this advertising could work very well indeed.

I know there will be wrinkles to iron out and hiccups to manage - on a site the size of Etsy it is naive to think there won't be any.

It seems to me that this is an interesting scheme that is well worth a trial period
- I'm in.

That is how I am looking at it. And when we can test this new avenue so inexpensively, why not?

Well that explains that. I had no idea there was such a thing. Thank you :)

I have a question for Admin:

If I decide to advertise a whole shop or a category, and I place an ad, but then later add items to that category...can I then change the ad to advertise those new items in with the category?

Also, if I have new keywords I would like to use, can I change those after placing the ad? So long as they appear in my tags, I mean...

And when exactly can those changes be made? How soon after placing an order for an ad?

Thank you!

This FAQ should cover most of your questions:
www.etsy.com/help/article/1040

You can make the changes at any time; items you add will be automatically included in your search ad campaign if they're in the section you chose, or if you're promoting your whole shop. Keywords may be added based on those items, if appropriate, but you'll be able to see those in your campaign's list of keywords along with all the rest.

Any changes you make by 10 a.m. GMT will take effect at the beginning of the next "day" of the campaign, which will begin at 12 p.m. GMT.
'Recently Listed' is going away and will be replaced with search ads.

Search ads look good on the surface...

Except when your "impressions" are quickly exhausted by unscrupulous sellers, looky-loos and bots. There's no way you can keep up with this and it WILL happen.

Facebook (a totally "free" networking site) has been selling search ads for some time and today Mr. Zuckerberg was announced as one of the wealthiest Americans. Hmmm...
When will the ads begin to appear?
