Hi Eric -- Thanks so much for the exciting update. I have a question.

Can one use a name that is a dormant "buying" account? In other words, a buyer or user has the name, but not a shop owner.

So can this name be used for a shop, since it is not currently associated with a shop?

Thanks for your help.

When you change your shop name, you will not be able to choose another shop's name or a member's username. We made this decision to avoid potential confusion caused by a person having a username that is the same as some else's shop name.
Fantastic news!
To add to the many questions already asked:

A few months ago, I set up a new ETSY account because I am changing my business name. I have not moved my shop to that account yet (and was not looking forward to it, with the new listing fees and starting over with zero feedback). I did this because we weren't allowed to change our shop (user) names at all. Now that we can... but I've already "taken" my own new business name... Arrrrrgh! May I close the new account so that my new business name is again "available" for me to use?

Please say yes :)
Hurray! This is great news! You'll make a LOT of shop owners happy.

I don't need it now, but I can see this shop needing a name change eventually.

Marking - I'll be interested to see the answers to the questions posted.
FABULOUS Indeed! You guys ROCK!
WashableArt, I have a feeling you're still going to have to transfer everything over to your new name. I think once a name is used, it can never be used again.

Yes, this does make sense -- it can indeed cause confusion.

Thanks again Eric -- This is great news and the ability to make a change is very much appreciated!

I wished for this when I changed my shop name, but couldn't wait any longer. I lost so many sales and feedback :(

But what if we actually own that shop too? Can we close it and regain access to that name. I think a lot of us that want to do this are worried about our sales and our feedback. We would like to retain these things.
when will we be able to combine our own shops...??

Unfollow username?

Are you sure you want to stop following this person?
