Good to know there is some progress being made, and that you have added more people to help with the problems.

For me, it seems like there are still a few categories of items that are not Etsy-legal and/or are listed in the wrong area that you could clear out very easily with just a simple search every now and again. I'll convo you a list so as not to call out here.

This would definitely be helpful ananemone. As you know, the marketplace is large so we don't always know exactly where to look. Guidance in the form of flags is always helpful but overall categories are helpful as well. Thanks!

Isn't 43 employees too many?

And what about the shops that are selling a brand, here under one name, claiming they make it themselves? On Dawanda actually claiming to be the brand (their username there) yet also claiming to handmake everything by the one family member on Dawanda, also. When one can search for the brand, and find their website, which is advertising for several people to work - pattern cutters, layout designers, photographers, models -- and, from the number of sales on taobao alone (they have a brand-name store there, too) clearly are a large institution. I think I calculated, and the etsy-seller-posted rate of 3 days for relative to sew each item, they would have to sew for 400 years to make all the identical items that have been sold on taobao. That particular seller is now photographing herself (I assume) in the clothes -- both on Dawanda & Etsy, so it's clear they are the same reseller -- in an effort to hide the photos that they formerly used from that brandname (which show in sales).

Hmm? In cases such as that, where a seller is clearly not telling the truth, wouldn't the evidence be enough, rather than Etsy have to believe the falsehoods from a very profitable (for them, since prices here are 3-4x what *I* could buy on taobao?

A follow-up question would be -- why doesn't Etsy PURCHASE the evidence, and compare?

Have you considered contacting sellers via Conversation as well as via e-mail? There seem to be a lot of people coming to the Forums with questions about why their accounts have been deactivated without notice, so I can only assume that some of the e-mail messages from the MI Team are not reaching their targets (whether they're being re-routed to spam folders, or whatever.) Sending a Conversation seems like a good insurance measure.

Indeed. from some of the threads I've seen, that would be helpful. I do know that the random email from Etsy still ends up in my junk mail, no matter how well I think I've "taught" it!

i agree with worksofwhimsy - all the shipping upgrades and 'advertising' should just be removed. I had someone tell me that his six gazillion listing was just so he would come up first when a specific category was listed
Surely that can easily be done rather than relying on flagging (we actually work too LOL)

yes!

@Andrew --

And that is something Etsy can do proactively.

An intern could search by price from low to high, and go through all the advertisements and color swatches and whatevers.

In 90% of the case, the sellers know it's not allowed, but they see others do it and so continue. So, unless ALL are flagged, there will always be a boatload of 20 cent (or less!) listings to clog the search and encourage more to do it.

Hi Runz,

Totally something we can and do proactively.

I also think this is a deeper issue with our system that we don't allow things like upgraded shipping via a tool in the interface instead of having to use a separate listing for it. We've talked about this internally and I know some other admin are working to solve issues like this. More to look forward to :)
glad to see etsy try and tackle resellers. thank you.

how about stopping retaliatory feedback from sellers as well.

Hi Faro,

More to come on that one in the future. It's on our radar.
thanks for the communication and updates.
Apparently non-vintage and my question are not going to be answered. I sincerely hope that doesn't mean it's not being dealt with.

Thank you for replying Andrew. I hope it is retroactive or whatever and those previously abused by the system are taken into account when it/if the system changes.
I like the new initiative. Who let you guys out of the cage?
