Etsy sending notices to my customers......

My customer is being wonderful about communicating with me, and I consider myself really lucky in this regard, as we didn't start off on the right foot. Here's the information she just sent me:

"Hi, no bother. It wasnt an e-mail it was just a message flagged up on the ETSY site stating that 'this item does not ship to the UK'. It came up on a pink banner above the item description then the page crashed so I was unsure it anything had registered. It happened to another item I wished to purchase from another supplier but she has been able to contact me to say the order did not go through because they dont actually ship to the UK and the order had been blocked so perhaps a block has been put on your site in error?

Hope this helps."

And paypal DOES allow international shipping. They just state the addresses are unconfirmed.

Is this a way for Etsy to ding Paypal to shore up Direct Checkout? I sure as hell hope not.
Following this thread. This is really weird.

You and me both, as this was an unconfirmed shipping address. Looks like it's going to her work, and not her home addy.
Karen,

It sounds like yet another issue with the 'shipping drop down experiment' that many have complained about. The message your customer received is somewhat describing error message that is part of this 'experiment.'

How the order processed is yet another issue that, if the customer was presented the 'experiment' drop down list, needs to be add to the long list of issues encountered with this experiment.

Do you know if customer was presented with a drop down list of (ships to) countries either in the listing or when checkout in cart?

I posted more findings in this bug report yesterday:

I suspect the two are related. Of course paypal allows international shipping addresses and why on earth etsy would be telling sellers on the transaction emails that they don't is bizarre. Sometimes if you can't figure out how to word something properly then just don't bother trying.

Actually what this means is that Paypal doesn't allow a buyer to enter a different address that is in a different COUNTRY than their registered address. In that sense, Paypal doesn't allow an account to have international (more than one country) addresses in the address book.

I had one of these recently and understand that's what it meant. A US account (Aussie working in the US) asked for an item to be shipped to their home address in Australia. Etsy will let that happen, Paypal will not. So the Paypal address was the US address.

wow
So sorry for any confusion!

This sounds related to a bit of a technical issue we're working to fix up where the wrong ships to location is predicted in the cart. If your buyer is still experiencing this with any items in their cart they can take a screenshot and I'll be able to confirm that these two issues are related.

I'm happen to look into this further. Likely we'll be able to clear this up most quickly and directly if your customer contacts us directly. Please feel free to direct her to contact support@etsy.com and we'll help her out!
Lisa,

At this point, I'm not going to bother my customer once again. She has been through enough......and shouldn't be expected to jump through hoops so that Etsy can identify a problem they have.

I gave you the information she gave me, after contacting her several times. I'm not going to further bother her to send screen shots, and contacting Etsy support, etc.

At this point, I'm just hoping to avoid any further aggravation to this customer, as I don't want to end up receiving negative feedback for the transaction, which I might add, Etsy will not help me with if it occurs.
