I decided to observe people and how they use Etsy to shop. I made notes about every click they made, how they searched, how they used Etsy's features. I came away with some real revelations about how people shop on line.
One thing I discovered? Very often, a person would go to an Etsy shop that has only one or two featured items in their shop. And, most of the time the person shopping would see only those one or two featured items and just presume that was all they had in their shop!
Curious about this, I actually turned it into a bit of a test to see what people would do. I had 5 people go to a shop with 2 featured items. 4 out of 5 people just presumed that there was nothing but those 2 items in the shop and didn't even bother to scroll down! Then they just left the shop.
If you are using only 1 or 2 featured items, you could be losing potential customers!
I did this "research" to get an idea of how other people shop and to see what I might learn that could help me in my shop. So far, it has been a real eye opener.
I know it isn't scientific. I know that this is a very narrow group of people to look at. Still worth doing, IMO.
