What does "contravention" mean?

I saw an admin close down a thread for "contravention of some aspect of a member's account status."

What does that mean?

means it was against the rules :)
Dictionary.com says it means "a violation or opposition."

How do you violate or oppose someone's account status? I'm so confused.
means it was against the rules :)
___

But WHAT was against the rules?
"In many civil law countries (e.g.: France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Spain etc.) contravention is a less serious crime, similar to misdemeanor in common law countries."

I'm still trying to figure out what "crime" was committed here! How do you misdemeanor a member's account status?
Wow, that's a new word for me...I would have thought it meant intervention of contraband...:)
Maybe it is "putting down" another member, or disputing what they say?
If we explained what the offense was we'd be breaking the rules.
Synonyms of "contravene": infringe - violate - transgress - break

So someone infringed upon some aspect of a member's account status. Or violated some aspect of a member's account status. Or broke it.

Nope, still not understanding.
I was going to ask too, and looked it up...maybe it's disputing a person's credentials?
