Hello! I am just starting, and def want to do it right. I am oh philadelphia, and really and feeling overwhelmed with where to start, i.e.. tax id #, who and when to charge tax, filing, and EINs?!! Any help guidance, or posts to read would be SO MUCH HELP!

well, you charge sales tax to all shipments within PA. and I think the city of philly also has an additional city tax on top of the state rate, right? if so, then all shipments within the city would get charge both the state and city rates, as where outside the city would get charged the state rate.

and EIN isnt necessary for a sole-proprietor with no employees, but can be a good idea to get in some instances

My word of advice: inventory! Keep track of your inventory in some organized way, because you'll need that come tax time. I make jewelry and got so overwhelmed by that process last year that I just filed my Etsy income on my personal taxes and didn't claim any expenses. This year I'm much better prepared.
