I was hoping to get some feedback on whether you need a small business license to sell on Etsy from Washington state? My shop is already open, but it just never occurred to me that I may need one until my husband got me worried about it the other day! Any thoughts, recommendations or information you have would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!

you have to register with the state tax dept. to collect sales taxes. and you have to check with your city/county regarding a business license or home occupation permit and registration of your DBA name to see if any or all are required.

I read an article here on Etsy that said you don't need to file quarterly taxes if you will own less than $1000 at the end of the year? I definitely won't owe that. Is this related to sales tax? I'm lost.

That's about income taxes which is totally separate from state sales tax:

Quarterly Taxes: Help for understanding what they are & when you need to pay them

Most states require sales tax registration before you start to sell and require you to file regular paperwork whether or not there is sales tax to remit.

Hi Jenna, I had a meeting with my accountant this past February and she told me that starting in 2012 the Federal Government will begin cracking down on internet businesses that aren't collecting state sales tax and declaring their earnings on their Federal taxes. The links that have been shared here will get your started. I'd rather be safe then sorry, so I got my butt in gear this year! Good luck! =)
