This opal has been polished to a fine sheen. The bottom edges have been lightly beveled to facilitate setting in your favorite jewelry.

Solid opals are almost identical to glass on the Mohs hardness scale. Due to this fragility, opals are best bezel set, as prong setting does not offer the protection that these precious gems require. If you have never set opals before, please treat the stone gently. We do not calibrate our opals due to the incredible waste of material involved.

Solid Australian opals are precious gems, and can be one of the most valuable gems in existence. Australian black opals from the Lightning Ridge fields can, in exceptional cases, be worth more than the best diamonds - as high as $25,000. per carat retail.

We hand cut all of our opals following the natural features of the stone. This allows us to let the opal tell us what it would like to become, rather than forcing it into an unnatural finished shape. Cutting freeform is also much less wasteful than cutting calibrated cabachons. An old adage among those who cut opals says "listen to the stone", and that is what we try to do.

Please note that we do not sell inexpensive triplets or doublets. All of our opals are solid gems.

Thanks for coming by. We hope you will visit often. If you have any questions at all please feel free to drop us a line or convo us!
