This is an original encaustic artwork.
Created on a wooden plaque, it measures approximately 4X4 inches, with a depth of 3\/4 inch.

For this work, I wanted to create another little budgie bird. Maybe next time I'll try a yellow\/green one...

This work uses multiple techniques, to create a dynamic surface.

-The wallpaper (with golden flower pattern) was laid down as my background pattern
-The bird was drawn with graphite on tracing paper, and then I transfered this drawing onto the top layer of wax, so it appears bold with a lot of contrast
-I decided to paint in his blue belly with wax, to really bring out his character
-The wax dripped down the side of the plaque, which adds to the rustic hand-made feel

It has a matte finish, which is how the encaustic wax naturally dries. However, if you wish to get a shinier surface, you can polish it by buffing the surface with a nylon or flannel cloth.
I leave it matte so you have the option.

It is ready to hang (has a hole in the back for the sake of hanging on a nail), or it can sit on a mantel\/desk, which looks great just the same!

It is signed, titled, and dated on the reverse.
