You will receive the 30 tags pictured here — 15 sea foam green and 15 cobalt blue — measuring approximately 2.25 x 2.75 inches, with a piece of white cotton/poly thread attached. These would make lovely gifts tags for the holidays, especially for the gardener or eco-friendly hippie in your life! But they would also make great place cards or favors for a any special event.

These tags have been made using recycled paper and 27 wildflower seeds: 16 annuals for first-year color, plus 11 perennials or biennials for second and successive years' bloom. Convo me for a full list of the seeds but here’s a little taste — the botancial name first and the common name in parentheses: Nigella damascena (Love In A Mist), Silene armeria (Catchfly). Cosmos bipinnatus (Wild Cosmos), Papaver rhoeas (Red Poppy), Helianthus annuus (Sunflower), Linum grandiflorum rubrum (Scarlet Flax), Dianthus barbatus (Sweet William) and Echinacea purpurea (Purple Coneflower). These seeds will happily bloom from the northeast to the southwest.

This paper has been recycled from the highest-quality scraps that I could find, including from the recycling bin of Etsy seller Cindy of www.cutcardstock.com. (You have to start with high quality paper to end with high quality paper!) I use ancient papermaking techniques created by the Chinese over 1000 years ago to make handmade paper one sheet at a time.

Because I recycled previously manufactured paper, I have created new paper that already has sizing in it. This means that you can write on the tags and the ink won't feather or bleed. (One side of the tag is smooth on which to write.) After this paper has been used as tags, recycle it again in your garden!

Simply rake the soil, scatter the paper onto the soil, cover with 1/4 inch of topsoil, water and keep moist until germination, approximately 6 to 8 weeks. Take a look at the last photo to see a sample of paper growing on my window sill! Each order comes with the following insert that you are welcome to photocopy:

In this paper, little seeds lay asleep,
Waiting to be planted in soil 1/4 inch deep.
Water well then keep moist for 4 to 6 weeks.
Until little plants come out of the soil for a peek.
Many flowers will share their colors to the max.
Like baby blue eyes, purple cone flower and blue flax!

Here’s what customers are saying about my plantable paper:

"She is professional, responsive and personable (yes, even via Etsy Conversations!) I love her work and the concept. These will be perfect place cards for our eco-friendly wedding. Martha is great to work with!"

"Just beautiful. We're using these as display cards to sell our handmade silver jewelry. What a wonderful idea - to be able to put the paper back into the earth AND get flowers. Awesome! Super fast shipping & terrific seller. Don't hesitate to buy."
