The best jams, like the best ice creams, make us feel all happy and giddy like a kid again. This jam is my ice cream.

I fell in love with Elephant Heart plums when I first moved to the Bay Area. They are drab-looking, brownish purple on the outside, but deep, dark, blood red on the inside. The jam is also gorgeously bright red and super delicious. It's my all-time favorite red plum jam.

Elephant Heart plum is included in Slow Food USA's Ark of Taste, which aims to preserves great heirloom varietals of fruits and vegetables as well as other foods in danger of extinction. You can find out more about Elephant Heart plums from their link here:
