For a very artsy and DIY gardener, this lovely art journal is the perfect way to sketch and paint your way through a year of gardening bliss.

Handmade with great attention to detail, this journal has given an obsolete vintage book, "Green Fingers," a chance to be loved again in a new life. I have carefully selected each element, from the fine art paper torn by hand for the text block to custom marbled endpapers, in order to best showcase the character and personality of the original book.

In addition to 42 blank pages (84 front and back) made from heavy paper suitable for all media, I've included an entire signature made of graph paper for planning.

Like all well-mannered art journals, it lies flat for working in.

Just for fun, I've stitched in three little tabs made from a layered and glazed bright green Starbucks gift bag and added a library card in a pocket on the front cover made from a pretty seed envelope.

The blank pages are made from acid-free 200 gsm (120 lb) Velata paper from the Cartier Magnani mill in Italy. This subtly textured, ivory paper holds up great to all media with no bleed through. It curls a bit if you get it quite wet with watercolor, but it dries flat. (Contact me if you'd like a sample of paper, and I'll be happy to send it!) The pages are all hand torn for soft, deckled edges rather than sharp machine cuts. I prefer the more "handmade" look this gives the finished product. I have a number of artists, as well as journalers, that keep returning for more books just because of the joy of using this paper!

Endpapers and signature covers are made from hand marbled paper I created to complement the colors of the book. The first signature cover forms a pocket made from sturdy card stock to hold bits and pieces you collect along the way. The signature covers also come in handy as tabs to tip in loose ephemera.

The closure is from a vintage button and waxed Irish linen thread, finished at the end with two glass leaf charms.
