Natural shell fragments have been tumbled to create smooth edges and lacquered to keep the lustre and shine of the paua's colours. Each fragment is a unique shape and it has taken time matching this pair or earrings for their size, shape and colour. Due to the natural state of the shell only one side of the shell is coloured, the rear being a natural fawn colour.

Each shell approximately 1/8 in or 20mm length

The beautiful paua, a member of the abalone shellfish is only found around the deep waters of New Zealand. The colours vary from the softest of pale pinks, blues and greens to the almost iridescent intensity of a peacock feather with bold blues, pinks greens and sometimes purple. Between each layer of colour is a layer of black, which shows as a dot on the earrings above.

Finding a paua shell or shell fragment while walking along a New Zealand beach often gives the pleasure of finding a rare treasure. My home is full of many paua treasures which I have collected over the years. New Zealand is a special place in the universe.
