One full pound of genuine beach gems! A fun collection of rough sea glass. These are pieces of sea glass that didn't quite make the grade for our usual collections. Sizes range from approximately 1/4" to over 2 inches long. All of these beach gems have been handpicked by our family from the shores of Monterey Bay's Marine Sanctuary. Most of the pieces in this collection are on the larger side. Perfect for those who are sea glass painters or who love to work with eco friendly materials for jewelry.

A great collection for mosaics, arts & crafts projects, home decor...or to pick through with a nice cup of coffee or tea to relax.

This batch will be sent via Priority Mail Flat Rate box. Items purchased with this collection will ship for free (as long as I can fit them into the box...otherwise, I will combine shipping).

History:

Monterey Peninsula beaches have an interesting and colorful history, from pirate pillages in the 1800’s (one beach was named “the Beach of Insurgents”) to the fishing, whaling, and canning industry in the 1900’s, to marine biological research in the mid-1900’s. It was Monterey where Spanish ships brought Franciscan Friar Junipero Serra to the area to establish one of the first Californian pueblos in June, 1770, and later, Monterey was the original location of the state capital. Nobel Prize winner, John Steinbeck, used the location and lives of those he knew in Monterey, to write Cannery Row, Tortilla Flat, and Sweet Thursday. He referred to Monterey Peninsula as “the circle of enchantment.”
